Retired public safety officers can claim a reduction of up to $3,000 in pension income for amounts paid out of their taxable pension income for health insurance premiums.
This pension income deduction is shown on federal Form 1040, Line 5.
To enter the information for this deduction in TurboTax Online, follow these steps:
1. Go to Wages & Income
2. Go to IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R) and click Add/Edit
3. After entering Form 1099-R, there will be a section called Do any of these situations apply to you? Click on This money was from being a public safety officer
4. The next screen will ask Did you or the Pension Administrator Pay for Health Insurance? If Yes, the following screen will ask how much you or the plan administrator paid directly for health insurance.
The amount paid for health insurance as indicated above will reduce your taxable pension income on Form 1040, Line 5b. Line 5c will show PSO checked.
See this link for more information on the tax exclusion for retired public safety officers.

Same problem, it says tax data imported successfully but there is nothing imported. I think for Fidelity it used to be National Financial Services import but that doesn't work either. I suppose I will enter by hand but this is really the main reason I use TurboTax, and if they can't import from the 2 largest financial inst in the world, something is definitely wrong. Has anyone had any luck with this?

Social security premiums:

Medicare Parts B and D will not show on your Sch C since they are an adjustment to total income (Sch 1).
Parts B and D do not reduce your business income or self-employment tax.
Sch 1 is reducing your taxable income.

Hello I ordered a Tesla model Y on September 27th and entered a binding agreement and have made a payment. Mad vehicle is delivered on Nov 15th. Since I ordered the vehicle and made payment before September 30th I should qualify for the tax credit according to Tesla and IRS website. I received a form from CP99A on December 15th from IRS stating that I should file 8936 Schedule A while filing taxes. When I enter this information into turbotax saying that order date is September 27th and placed in service date as Nov 15th, turbotax is saying that I am not eligible for tax credit (which clearly is not correct). How do I address this discrepancy. Thank you for your help. Kind regards, K

Same problem here stuck! The form view has Line C with my dependent's name and then Line D with "Untitled" as the worksheet link. If I delete Untitled, it just comes back again after I continue.

Were you able to allocate income items when you prepared your North Carolina return to North Carolina? Double-check your entries, by going to Your State Returns on the left side menu, then click Edit for your NC tax return.
On the screen "Your 2025 North Carolina taxes are ready for us to check", click on the edit button to the right of Income.
On the next screen, scroll down and click Done with income.
The next screens will allow you to allocate income to NC - click Continue.
The first screen is for Wages - click Continue if things look correct there.
The next screens will allow you to allocate income items to North Carolina as a non-resident, including your wife's business income.

Confirming the above issue + resolution from BARLECH:- That is, IMMEDIATELY after installing turbotax-desktop, it fails to TRANSFER INFORMATION from prior year's return. Step 1: Download and Install TurboTax Step 2. Reboot. Yes -- even for macOS Tahoe 26.2 -- you MUST reboot. Step 3: After reboot, re-open Turbotax, and .. drumroll .. the issue is now gone! It's frustrating that Intuit failed to have TurboTax show a popup asking to reboot - BEFORE further using the desktop-turbotax. Or .. .. this is all by design, to frustrate desktop-app users, to push everyone onto their "online" product.

In April 2020 I took 50 shares of long term stock from my account with my wife as co owner, and opened a new account in the name of me and my adult child, using my social security number for taxes. It was on a dividend reinvestment plan, I closed the account/sold all 50+ shares in Jan 2025 as my child was in need of emergency cash. The 1099 B shows the usual; cost and proceeds and includes box 4 Federal Income Tax withheld. But I cannot find a way to add the tax withheld in turbo tax deluxe (desktop). So, where or how to I add or show the fica withheld?

If you donated plasma to Biolife, that is not technically a donation, instead it is you selling your plasma. This is actually considered self-employment income, which is why TurboTax is treating it as a business. A business doesn't mean you need to file special paperwork for form it, it simply means your income needs to be reported on Schedule C. Schedule C is for those who go out and are performing a service or selling something for money and are not doing for the sheer enjoyment of the act (which would then be considered a hobby)
So yes, it is income, but it is self-employment income. So to enter this, you do not need a 1099, you simply need to use your records. You can use your bank account records for deposits or if they gave you a prepaid card, you can use the transactions on that. Self-Employment and Business Income To enter your self-employment income select the following:
Federal
Income and Expenses
Show More next to Self-Employment
Start next to Self-Employment
Yes, to you have any self-employment income or expenses
Enter the type of self-employment work you do and you can select that you use your name for your business
Click through a few more screens and you will get to a screen that says "Your XX info"
Click Looks good
Then you will come to a screen that says Let's enter the income for your business. It will give you the option of 1099-NEC or Other self-employed income including the 1099K , cash and checks.
If you do not select one, it will not let you enter your income
Enter your self-employment income on the next screen
Continue and on the next screen click add expenses
* Please note navigation may differ slightly depending on which version of TurboTax you are using*
The income and expenses as an independent contractor will be reported on Schedule C which is part of your overall tax return. This also means you will be subject to the 15.3% SE Tax on the profit. If you did not pay Self Employment (SE) Taxes in 2025, and if you plan to do this again in 2026, it may be a good idea to make estimated quarterly payments to avoid penalties if you are making more than $400 a year.

My wife just sold her house in Brazil. She strictly used it as rental property. She bought this house at R$100,000 (R$ is Real Brazilian currency) which is USD $44,152.06 in 2013. She sold it at R$150,000 which is USD 28,327.54 in 2025. You can see that she made R$50,000 in profit but when I do taxes as jointly, it showed loss in dollar for sold this house. The dollar value has changed significantly in 12 years. What should I do since it's a loss in Dollar but gain in Real (Brazilian)? Another question is that she used as rental property in whole time, she never use it as main residence. Do I have to report it on Sale of Home? Any advice is appreciated!

The error on Schedule B, Part 2, is due to a code required on Form IT-225. The code is for various subtraction modifications provided by the entity of which you are a partner, shareholder, or beneficiary. It is needed to finish your NYS return (click here for the list).
If you cannot find which code pertains to your situation, you can send a diagnostic file and we can assist you further. A diagnostic file is a copy of your tax return that has all of your personal information removed. You can send one to us by following the directions below:
TurboTax Online:
Sign into your online account.
Locate the Tax Tools on the left-hand side of the screen.
A drop-down will appear. Select Tools
On the pop-up screen, click on “Share my file with agent.”
This will generate a message that a diagnostic file gets sanitized and transmitted to us.
Please provide the Token Number that was generated in the response.
TurboTax Desktop/Download Versions:
Open your return.
Click the Online tab in the black bar across the top of TurboTax and select “Send Tax File to Agent” *
This will generate a message that a diagnostic copy will be created. Click on OK and the tax file will be sanitized and transmitted to us.
Please provide the Token Number (including the dash) that was generated in the response.
*(If using a MAC, go to the menu at the top of the screen, select Help, then, “Send Tax File to Agent”)
Please tag me in the response, with your token, so I can look into this further.

Ty for that answer to the other question. My dad lived in assisted living in the memory unit. He could not perform several activities for himself like, transfers, showers, incontinence, going to the bathroom, and eating. He could not live on his own at this point. We had the following types of expenses: (1) normal room and board (2) facility Level 4 assistance from nurses and CNAs (3) third party care givers to help with eating, bathroom, turning TV on / off, getting up from chairs and not falling out of the bed at nights Would all these expenses be deductible under Schedule A, medical expenses.
