It depends on your state, but it sounds like you have a State Return that was accepted and then a separate School District return. It's possible the School District return was rejected, not your state return. If this is what happened, go back into the return and click on the File section. proceed through this section, making sure your entries are correct and resubmit.

In some cases, if an underlying form or calculation has not been finalized in the software, you will see "Needs Review" or "Not Started" on the summary pages. Your entries have been saved, but the interface is not updating. For Rental Properties, the main module that is pending is Depreciation. We anticipate the update will be released by February 13, 2026. In the meantime, ignore the screen tags and continue with your return.   Sign up here to be notified by email when depreciation is ready.

I contacted Intuit support by the phone and did not care for the response.  I was told to enter it myself.  That is fine for a simple 1099-INT or 1099-DIV.    A 1099-B needed for the sale of a mutual fund that has been held for many years.  To manually enter this is not only time-consuming but also error prone since it involves many manually entered values.   This is an unacceptable response from Intuit and defeats the purpose of buying software to do ones taxes.

What do you mean by "did my tax return for 2024 twice"?    It is not possible to e-file the same tax return twice.  If you e-file a return that is accepted, the IRS will reject any other e-files that use the same SSN.     DID YOU E-FILE?   Did you e-file?   Did you go through all three steps of the FILE section and click a big orange button that said “Transmit my returns now?”     When you e-file your return you will get two emails from TurboTax.  The first one will say your return has been transmitted; the second one will tell you the IRS has accepted  or rejected your federal e-file.  If you filed a state return, there will be a third email (usually a day or two later) that tells you if the state e-file was accepted or rejected.   Check your e-file status:   https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/    What does it say in your account?  Does it show that the return was accepted?   Or does it say something else---like "rejected," "printed," or "ready to mail?”   If you discover or realize that your e-file was rejected, or just never filed, you will need to print it, sign and date it in ink, and file it by mail now, since e-filing is closed for returns for tax year 2024.

I'm a bit confused, but are you saying your state return was rejected due to last years AGI entry? If so, you do not need to file an amendment, you need to correct the state return and resubmit.    Some states do not use the Federal AGI, but your state AGI. If this is the case you will be asked this in the State interview. Check your last year state return for this information. If you amended your last year state return this number may have changed from the AGI on your original state return.    If you can't resolve this reject, you may need to mail your state return.

While doing my taxes this year I made a mistake and placed my Social Security income amount in the section that is used for Medicare deduction amount.  While it was my error, which will require me to send in an amendment, I would have thought the software would have compared the two amounts, Social Security income  and Medicare deductions. If these amounts are equal, the user should be notified in order to verify the amounts were entered correctly.

If you used the current online program which is only for 2025, and you entered 2024 information, the return was all wrong.   It might be under review or you might get a letter.   Check the IRS refund site to what it says there. First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:  https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/   Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.     You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2025 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:    https://www.irs.gov/refunds   If the IRS does process the return, you will have to amend it to remove that 2024 income and show no income from working in 2025.   Meanwhile:   If you need to file a 2024 tax return correctly---   You cannot change the tax year.   The current online program is for 2025 only.   Only a 2025 return can be prepared online and only a 2025 return can be e-filed.   Online preparation and e-filing for 2022, 2023, and  2024 is permanently closed. Note:  The desktop software you need to prepare the prior year return must be installed/downloaded to a full PC or Mac.  It cannot be used on a mobile device.   To file a return for a prior tax year  If you need to prepare a return for 2022, 2023, or 2024  you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign,  and mail the return(s) https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/ You may also want to explore purchasing the software from various retailers such as Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam’s, etc.   Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/state-taxes/contact-state-department-revenue/L9qVToi02_US_en_US?uid=m6e06um0     When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.   Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
