if you used the TurboTax online web-based editions to file your 2024 tax return, then you messed up.
The TurboTax online editions are only for tax year 2025 and cannot be changed.
You will have to wait for the IRS to send you a notice questioning your 2025 tax return. Then you will need to amend the tax return that was filed to only have 2025 tax data entered.
An amended return, Form 1040-X, can only be printed and mailed to the IRS if the original tax return was not e-filed. The IRS will take up to 20 weeks or longer to process an amended tax return.
Before starting to amend the tax return, wait for the tax refund to be received or the taxes due to be paid and processed by the IRS.
See this TurboTax support FAQ for amending a current year tax return - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-federal-tax-return-current-year/L7eS6o1qh_US_en_US?uid=lfunevhk
To complete and file a 2024 tax return using TurboTax you would need to purchase, download and install on a personal computer one of the 2024 desktop editions from this website - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/
A 2024 tax return can only be printed and mailed, it cannot be e-filed using TurboTax.

The very first question after you go into the Rental Properties and Royalties section of your return starts the process of determining whether you qualify as a real estate professional. If you meet both qualifications on that screen and materially participate in each property (determined later in the process), then you will be treated as a real estate professional with regard to any losses on the rental properties.
Using TurboTax Home and Business, go to the Business tab. Then click Start or Update beside Rental Properties and Royalties. Answer 'Yes' that you want to work on this section, then you will see the screen Please Confirm Your Professional Status.

You are able to review the California Military Retired Pension Exclusion in TurboTax, in the California state income tax return. The exclusion may be found at the screen Any Pension or Annuity Adjustments. Do you have a question? The California Franchise Board states: For taxable years beginning on or after January 1, 2025, and before January 1, 2030, California allows qualified taxpayers to exclude from gross income up to $20,000 of retirement pay from the federal government for service in the uniformed services or annuity payments received pursuant to a U.S. Defense Department Survivor Benefit Plan.

If the Social Security number in box 2 of the SSA-1099 is not yours, you cannot enter that SSA-1099 on your tax return. The SSA-1099 must match your Social Security number to be reported on your return. Payments from your mom typically are not taxable income and should not be added to your income unless they are for services or income-producing activities.

As indicated in an earlier post, you don't need to upgrade in TurboTax Desktop since all the forms and schedules are available. There will be various screens that will ask if you want to upgrade to Premier or continue with Deluxe. An example would be entering stock sales in TurboTax Deluxe.
Your question is on an old thread and instruction changes may occur from year to year. It is best to start a new question in the current year (2026).
