Steps for Defined Benefit RMDs in TurboTax:
When entering your 1099-R, follow the prompts regarding RMDs.
When asked "Is this an RMD? Answer "Yes".
If asked for the amount, enter the total amount distributed - the amount in Box 1 of your 1099-R.
Since defined benefit plans calculate payments to satisfy RMD rules, the entire annual distribution is generally considered the RMD

I find the Turbo Tax 2025 Home and Business Desk is not considering the 401k Roth conversions when calculating MAGI for the Roth IRA contribution limit. The MAGI should be AGI minus the Roth Conversion amount. Correct? Has anybody else encountered this problem or the rule has changed?

Hi @DaveF1006 Appreciate you escalating this issue internally. It's been a month since I first reported the issue. As you may see, others are also facing the same issue, one of them reporting it in the web version as well. Kindly request you to check internally and report when this issue would be resolved, if possible. Some of us are only waiting on this issue to get resolved before getting it reviewed and filing it.

doing taxes is never fun, but at least turbotax made the experience easier, including the step-by-step design, the ease of importing of data from financial institutions, and itsdeductible for charitable contributions. i've used turbotax deluxe for 10 years. this year was a nightmare! why can't engineers leave well enough alone?! this redesign was a mess. the step-by-step was confusing, itsdeductible was dumped MID-YEAR so i had to enter each and every contribution from scratch, click-for-info boxes didn't work, had to do many google searches to figure what the heck i was being asked to do, and i had to make decisions the past software seamlessly handled for me. now that i've survived this nightmare, and have apparently completed my return, i can only hope it's accurate. never again will i use turbotax!

Based on what I’ve experienced on my Mac last year it was not allowing a full software update. I called for technical assistance and was guided through a manual update which required uninstalling all associated files for the 2025 filing year. Instructions were emailed as well in case my call dropped. After the update was completed the forms were good and issue resolved. You may be able to find the manual update instructions link on TT Community for your specific operating system.

Was it rejected by the IRS? Do you (or family members) have health insurance through the Marketplace? Did you (or family members) ever have health insurance through the marketplace?

My frustration is increasing. We are not asking for a new feature in Turbo Tax and therefore we should wait and see if the update will be implemented. The room and board breakdown fields have been there the 7 years I've been reporting educational expenses to offset 529 distributions. It is ridiculous to be told to stick it in the "non required books".

Thank you for your help! Here is another question to verify - T-1098 box 1 shows $7110, box 5 - $5303 for scholarships received. But only $3100 went towards tuition and fees. The rest $4000 were covering housing - $2500 was scholarship and the rest $1800 was out of pocket. So when TT asks what part of the scholarships covered room and board, do I show the full $4000 or only part that was paid by scholarships ($2500 or so)?

We can't answer why your Child Tax Credit is only $633 because we can't see your tax return. Since you indicated that you didn't work much, you probably didn't have any taxable income so you may be eligible for the refundable Additional Child Tax Credit. In order to qualify for the Additional Child Tax Credit, you must have more than $2,500 in earned income. The additional Child Tax Credit is up to $1,700 per child based on your income.
For more information, refer to the TurboTax Help articles: Child Tax Credit: Top 8 Requirements for 2025-2026, What is the Child Tax Credit?, and What is the Additional Child Tax Credit?
