For years I have had the option of saving 1) required IRS forms and 2) all forms and worksheets.  This year, I cannot find access to the many forms and worksheets used to prepare my tax filing.  For example, I cannot see my Qualified Dividend and Capital Gains Tax Worksheet, which I need.  How do I get access to it?  I'm using the DoItYourself Premium version.

There are two types of PINs, an Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN) and a PIN for efiling.  If your girlfriend had an Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN) in prior years, she will need her IP PIN for 2025.  Unless your girlfriend specifically requested an IP PIN or was a victim of identity theft in the past, it is not likely that she would have an IP PIN for 2025.  If your girlfriend is being claimed as a dependent on your tax return, she does not need a PIN to efile.  Only you, the Taxpayer (and spouse, if any) will need a PIN to efile.

The “senior deduction” is added automatically by the software based on the date of birth and filing status you entered into MY INFO.  You do not need to take any extra steps to enter it. (And…the new senior deduction has nothing to do with whether you are getting Social Security)     2025 STANDARD DEDUCTION AMOUNTS SINGLE $15,750  (65 or older/legally blind + $2000) MARRIED FILING SEPARATELY $15,750  (65 or older/legally blind +1600) MARRIED FILING JOINTLY $31,500  (65 or older/legally blind + $1600) HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD $23,625 (65 or older/legally blind + $2000)     For 2025 through 2028 there is an extra  deduction amount of up to $6000 per individual 65 or older filing Single, MFJ, or HOH which is phased out for taxpayers with modified adjusted gross income over $75,000 for single filers and $150,000 for joint filers.   (The deduction phases out completely at $175.000 Single or HOH, or $250,000 joint)   The $6,000 senior deduction will be calculated on 1040 Schedule 1-A page 2 Part V Enhanced Deduction for Seniors which goes to 1040 line 13b. It is separate and in addition to the Standard Deduction or your Itemized Deductions on 1040 line 12e.  Turbo Tax automatically includes it. You probably answered something incorrectly in MY INFO.   Go back to MY INFO, click the child’s name  and go through all of the interview questions carefully and slowly.  Read every screen top to bottom.     Make sure you have entered your child as a dependent in My Info, and that you have entered the child's Social Security number.    Careful— do not say that your child’s SSN is not valid for employment.  If your child was born in 2025 make sure you said he lived with you the whole year.  There is an oddly worded question that asks if the child paid over half their own support.  Say NO to that question.   If your dependent was a full-time college student, make sure you were careful on the MY INFO screen for “Uncommon situations” and that you indicated there that they were a student.

You cannot adjust SC to only tax on the income you earned since you moved to the state.  South Carolina does not have a Part Year resident return like most states- so you can choose to file as a Resident or Nonresident.     If you use the Nonresident method, South Carolina only taxes income earned while working in South Carolina.  If you choose the Full-year Resident Method, you report all income, but take a credit for taxes paid to the state you paid to Ohio.   Because you had income from working in North Carolina and income from the ROTH conversion that was Ohio income, you probably would get better results filing this year as a nonresident- your only South Carolina income would be any South Carolina source income.  Go back to the South Carolina section of TurboTax, and indicate that you want to file as a nonresident- and note if you had no South Carolina source income, you would not be required to file.

And.....did you already e-file?   Was your e-file accepted?     I SHOULD HAVE SAID I COULD BE CLAIMED AS A DEPENDENT   Did you say you could not be claimed as someone else’s dependent, but it turns out your parent(s) can claim you?  Now your parents’ return is being rejected when they e-file, or it will be rejected.  That means your parents must print, sign, and mail their return.  They can still claim you as a dependent, but they cannot e-file now.  Not even if they wait for you to amend, so they should not wait for you to do that.       Or----another remedy for your parents:   GET IP pin in order to e-file if your dependent’s SSN was claimed on another return   https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-takes-steps-to-help-prevent-refund-delays-by-accepting-duplicate-dependent-returns-with-an-ip-pin-for-2025-filing-season-taxpayers-encouraged-to-sign-up-soon-for-ip-pin-online-account     https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/get-an-identity-protection-pin         Your part in fixing this is to wait until your return has been fully processed and you have received you refund.  THEN you need to file an amended return, called a 1040X, to change the way you answered that question in My  Info about whether you can be claimed as someone else’s dependent.

How does this affect the State of Maine Schedule 2, line 2a?  The form still asks to enter the amount from 1040 Schedule A, line 5e (now greater than 10,000) however Turbo Tax auto-populates 10,000 in that field.  Is this accurate?  Although this benefits me, will my state taxes be rejected for having a different value between the Federal Schedule A line 5e and State of Maine Schedule 2 line 2a?
