Can you clarify if you're not seeing the reduction at all (it will appear on Line 13b), or if it has been reduced and you are seeking to understand the reduction in the amount?

I've entered in my 1099-Q information in the deductions & credits section to report the ESA dollars I rolled over into a Roth IRA, which is an allowable rollover and should not be taxed. TurboTax, however, is counting this as taxable income, increasing my state and federal taxes due by nearly $2,500. I'm at a loss for what to do here -- how do I correctly report this so that TurboTax does not make the mistake of considering this taxable?

Hi Johnp317. I use TT Deluxe and had the same problem a couple of times the past few years, the exact same problem. What I did was as follows: I saved my return and then deleted the entire program. I then reinstalled a fresh copy from the vendor where I bought it from. I reinstalled and it worked perfect. I used to download or install the program as soon as it was available, sometimes at the end of the year or at the very beginning of the new year. What I found was, a lot of the early releases of TT have this problem so I waited until I got all of the needed info for filing and downloaded/installed TT at that time. No problems since. I don't know if this works with other versions of TT, Business, Premier, etc., but it did work with Deluxe. What ever program your using, its worth a try. Hope this helps.

This is now fixed but you will need to follow these steps to generate the form and/or fix your rejection:
Sign in to your TurboTax Online account and select Fix my return.
Select Federal from the left menu, then Deductions & Credits.
Scroll down to Charitable Donations and select Revisit next to Donations to Charity in 2025.
You must review each non-cash donation entry. For any donation or group of similar items over $500, ensure you have provided:
The organization's name and address.
A description of the property.
The date you acquired it and how (e.g., purchase, gift).
Your cost or basis and the Fair Market Value (FMV).
Once you provide these details, TurboTax will automatically generate Form 8283.
If the form still does not appear in your Tax Summary:
Go to Tax Tools > Tools > Delete a form.
Check if there is a "ghost" Form 8283 or Charitable Contribution Worksheet that is blank. Delete it.
Go back to the Donations section and re-enter the details for the specific high-value items. This forces the software to re-trigger the form creation.
Once corrected, proceed to the File section to resubmit your federal return.

The Trust is a "Grantor Trust" "Irrevocable Trust Agreement". The Grantor is *living*. The Asset Holder, a Bank, issued the 1099-INTs to the Trust EIN. So, I need to additionally buy TT Business and file a 1041 U.S. Income Tax Return for Estates and Trusts, correct? I am assuming the 1041 includes reporting the 1099-INT Interest and determining the Federal taxes owed. Is that correct? If so, why is a 'Grantor Trust Letter' or Schedule K-1 needed in addition to the 1041? Also, for PA, do I file the PA-41 and is that also only accessed through TT Business? Thank you.

Yes, only your husband needs to say that he will be claiming your son on your W-4. Since he is the higher earner, he is likely in a higher bracket so it will provide the extra cushion against under-withholding. If you put your son on both W-4's it could result in a combined under withholding because of deductions for the child.
This goes on step 3 of your W-4. It is telling the employer that you are able to claim a $2,200 Child tax credit (or $500-depending on your sons age). This will lower the amount they withhold from his wages. If you put it on both of your W-4's they would lower the amount on both of your wages even though when you file your taxes there would only be one child tax credit.
You can also use TurboTax W-4 Estimator to help you figure out if you want any additional amount withheld from either of your wages. It comes down to personal preference to a point. Some people prefer to have extra withheld so they are doubly sure they do not owe or because they prefer the refund, while others want their weekly paychecks to be as much as possible with only the taxes that are owed to be withheld.

Yes, personal property and tangible property are the same. Your selection is fine, and I can't think of any other selection that is more appropriate.

I have confirmation that the return was successfully e-filed and they most definitely received the payment 😉 Any suggestions as to what I'm not doing right?
