My wife also says that we can't file separately because my income was used to determine the subsidy for her health insurance. Is that true, or can we file separately?

Hello, I appreciate the information. I was under the impression since the first home was purchased in 2014 (before 2017) the entire interest could be claimed. Leaving the limit only applying to the second home ?   Is the goal to combine both properties 1098 or combine the 1098s that belong to each property resulting in two 1098s effectively ?   Pete
Instructions state it should be under Other deductions but there is not option there.

Yes.  You should add this to your income, especially if you received a 1099-NEC.  You should also include any expenses you incurred relating to the doordash work.  If your expenses exceed your income, the losses may offset any other income you may have received during the year, which will help lower your tax liability.

I'm trying to enter my Reforestation expenses on 1040 Schedule 1, Line 24d of the desktop version.  I've overridden the amount (I didn't see it in the interview portion of TurboTax).  The amount can be entered, but Line 25 that adds up line 24 entries is not calculated, it is still blank.

How old was your son at the end of 2025?  Was he a full-time student?      Does he meet the criteria to be claimed as a qualifying child /   If he can be claimed as a qualifying child his income over $5200 will not matter.     But if he does not meet the criteria to be a qualifying child, his income over $5200 means he cannot be claimed as anyone's dependent.   WHO CAN I CLAIM AS A DEPENDENT?   You can claim a child, relative, friend, or fiancé (etc.) as a dependent on your 2025 taxes as long as they meet the following requirements: Qualifying child They're related to you. They aren't claimed as a dependent by someone else. They're a U.S. citizen, resident alien, national, or a Canadian or Mexican resident. They aren’t filing a joint return with their spouse. They're under the age of 19 (or 24 for full-time students). No age limit for permanently and totally disabled children. They lived with you for more than half the year (exceptions apply). They didn't provide more than half of their own support for the year. Qualifying relative They don't have to be related to you (despite the name). They aren't claimed as a dependent by someone else. They're a U.S. citizen, resident alien, national, or a Canadian or Mexican resident. They aren’t filing a joint return with their spouse. They lived with you the entire year (exceptions apply). They made less than $5200 in 2025 (not counting Social Security) You provided more than half of their financial support.

This thread was started on 1/29/26 and there's still a problem with the software as of 2/8/26.  The last release date for a TT update was 2/6/26 which I downloaded / installed this AM.  After that, I started my daughter's return as a new return from scratch leveraging last year's return (a pain in the rear to attempt to prove out if any fix has been included in the latest updated) and there is no fix in the Step-by-Step interview.  She's 24 and a grad student so we don't claim her as a dependent.  The Step-by-Step interview is where the problem lies.  It's still absolute trash.  There's no way around calling it anything else right now with regards to execution and how they are handling 529 Plan withdrawals for qualifying education expenses that are NOT included on your 1098-T.  You have to jump to the Form view to address TTs awful execution on the Step-by-Step this year.  For my situation (basically preparing my 24-year-old daughter's return for her), the screen you would need to access in forms is the "Student Information Worksheet".  Once you are in that worksheet, scroll down to Part VI - Education Expenses.  There you can manually input expenses that were paid outside those captured in your 1098-T.  I've done this and it addressed my issues.  There are various education tax credits that you need to keep an eye on as TT is doing some things automatically that you can play with in Part VII.  I'm not experiencing any changes after saving and reopening the file (done several times) as others have mentioned.     Worst TT tax year experience I've ever had and I've been using it a long time.
