We should all look at using H&R Block or TaxSlayer next year as Turbotax has continued to decline each year.
TT doesn’t approve the loan, there’s a third party bank that handles that. They’ll send a letter explaining denial.

Another possibility----do you owe tax due to the state?    Did a summary at the end confuse you?     The “summary” given to you by TurboTax may have confused you.  That summary just nets out the difference between a refund you are getting and an amount you owe.   Or it adds two refunds or tax “due” amounts together.     The federal and state treasuries are completely separate from each other.     Your state tax due cannot be paid from a federal refund.   And….your federal tax due cannot be paid from a state refund.     Neither refund can be used to pay the amount due to the other one.   If you owe tax due, you have to pay it yourself by the filing deadline on April 15, 2026.
I received Child Care Assistance through NYS. I know I do not claim it on MY taxes but how does my sitter? It was paid to them, they are not a day care or nanny. Do they claim it? If so, how?

Honestly I had asked this via the AARP tax help thing, and they simply told me I'm not required to file at all. I went to the IRS page about "do I have to file" and it said the same, that I don't have to. Since it was below $15k.

In the Turbotax 2025 Desktop for Mac program, under Wages and income, Your Income, Retirement Distributions, 1099R Payments.  The two boxes "I have more than one value in Box 7" and "IRA/SIMPLE/SEP box is checked" are already checked when you open the form.  You can uncheck both, but when you leave the page and go back, the box "I have more than one value in Box 7" is checked again, even though there is NOT more than one value in Box 7.

Being pre-approved don't mean the advance is automatic. You still have to select it and be approved. You can look in a few specific places in your account or your email to make sure you applied for the advance.   Be aware that if you: Used a TurboTax partner affiliate link to use the software, the Refund Advance will not be available. Select the 5 Day Early Refund Delivery, you will not see the Refund Advance option. Check Your TurboTax Order Details On the Tax Home page, scroll down to the section for "Your tax returns & documents." Select View Order Details. Look for "Refund Advance" or "Credit Karma Money" listed under your payment and refund methods.  If it’s not there, you likely selected a standard direct deposit or a different refund option. Look for Confirmation Emails If you applied, you should have received automated emails from TurboTax and its partners. From TurboTax: Search for an email confirming your "Refund Selection." From Credit Karma: If you were approved, Credit Karma sends an email when the funds are deposited into your Credit Karma Money Spend account. From WebBank: If your application was denied, you will receive an email from WebBank (the lender) explaining the reason for the decline.   Check Your Credit Karma Money Account Because the Refund Advance is deposited into a Credit Karma Money™ Spend account, checking that account is the fastest way to see if the loan was processed. Log in to your Credit Karma account. Navigate to the Money tab. If you see a pending or completed deposit for a portion of your refund (typically between $250 and $4,000) shortly after the IRS accepted your return, that is your Refund Advance.   Review Your Tax Return Summary You can also find clues on your actual tax forms: Open your 2025 return in TurboTax Go to the Tax Tools menu on the left Select Print Center View your Federal Information Worksheet Look at the "Direct Deposit" section If you signed up for the advance, the bank account listed will be the MVB Bank account associated with Credit Karma, rather than your personal bank account. I entered manual crypto sales in TurboTax Desktop Premier.  I selected Digital Assets at the screen OK, let's start with one investment type.  I also selected 'Regular digital asset' at the screen Now, enter one sale for XXXXX.   I noticed that the entry acts differently depending upon whether I answer Yes or No at the screen Did you get a 1099-DA from XXXX?   If I select No, I see the Need Review message that you describe.  I have to run Federal Review and Smart Check to update the entry. If I select Yes, I selected One by One at the screen Now, choose how to enter your sales.  Then I do not see the Need Review message that you describe.   I am only seeing this experience when using Digital Assets at the screen OK, let's start with one investment type.

@KimTVU    Yeah, I noticed that when entering the data into a 1099-R form that was empty of any $$  to start . When making the first entries on the form, the software has done some, but not all the calculations ...yet   Then when entering that  non-zero RMD amount  (35,000 in my test file) on the page that notes the 1 April date, the tax due rachets (mine at least) to a huge tax due...   That's just a strange quirk of the software....and works out OK if you go thru the pages that follow _________________________ Investigating right at  the point when I first entered that 35,000 RMD amount, when my tax due ratcheted to a big number, I found that a form 5329 has been  generated, indicating a huge penalty for not haven't taken the actual RMD...because I hadn't gone to the next page yet where ......on the next page you indicate in a bullet point, that entire distribution was the full RMD amount, the software then recalcs eliminating the Penalty form 5329 entirely (in my case it had added over $8000 due before clicking that bullet point)...and the final calculations proceed properly.   When I edit the form a second time...and just stepping thru not changing anything, there's no ratcheting of the tax due/refund, because I've already hit the button on that one page indicating all of it was my RMD.   Yeah...TTX might make the flow proceed in a way that doesn't panic us somehow...but I'm not a programmer, and perhaps it needs some better management oversight of the user experience.

Uh oh......did you use the same online account to prepare tax returns for yourself and for your father?     When you use online TurboTax software you get one return per fee.   Each return needs its own account and user ID.   If you use the same account and user ID for a second return, the second one overwrites the first return and it is lost forever.   https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/using-turbotax/help/how-do-i-start-another-return-in-turbotax-online/00/25596

You don't have to file your Amazon Vine 1099 NEC as self employment or a Business.  You will file it under "other income", hobby income.  Now keep in mind, when filing as Hobby income, you can NOT claim expenses.  But your 1099 NEC total is so low, you said just over $600, correct?  You shouldn't feel a tax hit with that small amount.  I've been in the Vine program going on 4 years now.  Ive always filled it under "Hobby income", as its not a business, I don't deduct any expenses, I make no money from the products I receive, Amazon forbids us Viners from selling any item for the 1st 6 months we own it.  And that 6 months starts with the date you requested the item.  You will have to file because Amazon is legally obligated by the IRS to report a 1099 NEC on every one of us Vine reviewers.  You may have some Viners tell you that you have to file it under SE.  Thats not true. Its perfectly legal to file as hobby income.  You're not receiving any "money" from Amazon, although the IRS does consider the products we received, as compensation.  Although its Non Employee Compensation.  I am not a tax professional nor am I a lawyer, so I can't give you professional or legal advice, but I can let you know that its perfectly legal to file your 1099 NEC from Amazon Vine, under Hobby income.  I hope this helps you out a little.  Just remember, when filing as "Other Income", Hobby income " you can't make any deductions or expense your Internet usage.  If you start claiming expenses, then its a business or self employment.  Good luck.
It’s now Monday January 26 and the residential energy credit section still says it’s not available and I have all the latest updates!
