@cwr64 re "Can the online TurboTax eFile for free as did last year's desktop software?"   If you are going to try the TT online route, Intuit has an offer if you buy desktop you can switch to online premier for Fed+State for no extra cost.  (this offer is open to everyone not just Win 10 - another example where Intuit is certainly pushing towards online rather than desktop which was likely a big factor in the Win 10 decision).  When you try installing it on Win 10 it would show the window below.  I suppose you can just buy the Deluxe version to get this offer.   Online is not the same workflow/experience as desktop; it has no forms mode and you can only prepare 1 return per account, it's not like desktop where you can do multiple returns or play around with it later in the year.  But I believe online has more capabilities than desktop to upload or import from documents, see blog post below.   https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/articles/community-news-announcements/turbotax-windows-10-desktop-software-end-of-life/05/3708302   See here for the offer details   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/marketing/ty25-ttd-direct-offer/L0aUgksJd_US_en_US

I have seen many inquiries about this topic in this community. Most of them left frustratingly because there is no real solution provided. So, let me provide a solution that works (yes - on a mac).   1. First: What everyone says about using your typical [cmd +] does NOT work.    2. I have gone through a lot of trouble so you can save your time. (1) Search the community - no help, (2) Search software help - no help, (3) Ask the digital chat agent - no help, (4) Ask live agent - no help and complete waste of my 32 minutes talk time.  In fact, the live agent asked me to search on Youtube for a solution because she cannot figure this out herself as well. She claimed that this is not an issue with TurboTax, it's a problem with Mac.    3. This is when my frustration is sky high - why would anyone design a software with the default font size as 8-point font?  I am deeply disappointed at Turbo Tax's software development team and their management because I knew they were better 20 years ago. How things have gone by the way sides.    4. OK, now, unfortunately because of poor design of TurboTax, the solve is to go to Mac's Accessibility settings, go to Zoom, then: (1) enable keyboard shortcuts and/trackpad gesture to control zoom, (2) go to advance - and increase your maximum zoom from 1 to 1.6x, 2x or larger depending on your actual needs. You will need to try it out a few times.  That's the only way to compensate for the poorly designed software. Otherwise, I will need a refund because its font size is simply non-usable.    This is such a fundamental usability issue, and the product team not prioritizing this or not even realizing this is a key issue is an epic failure for a company that used to pride itself in usability. Shame!

Maybe they'll fix that after the 15 January update....if not then then after the 22 Jan update.   They usually only update the software once a week over Wed or Thursday nights......they only do it more often unless dire circumstances occur with the software.   Other than a few test files, The IRS isn't starting to accept any files until the week of 26 January, and they pull files randomly...so there is little reason to e-file this early.  Past years showed that this random IRS process resulted in many folks filing later, were able to get their refunds before the folks filing before the IRS started.
