CA sent me a letter, asking for more taxes, from 2021 (4 years ago). They claim that I deducted some income, for which I clarified that it was deducted for Paid Family Leave, which is non-taxable. I can see the deduction in my return, but I can't find any documents to support the deduction. How can I find where Turbo Tax go that number?

@ Coltonbranham001 Assuming you used Online TurboTax, it's also possible that you may be signing into the correct account but simply haven't proceeded through enough interview screens to locate the 2024 online return. It's a little tricky finding it. First, you have to be in the right account, and secondly, it depends on whether or not you have started a 2025 online return in that account. In any case, once you have located the right account, here's how to find the 2024 return. I've provided 2 scenarios. Choose the one that pertains to your situation. If you have not yet started a 2025 online return: Sign in to your account. What you see next depends on whether or not you have already started a 2025 return in that account. If your left column menu is minimal, and does not have a Tax Home tab displayed, that would imply you have not started preparing a 2025 return in that account. If you haven't yet started a return, it will start asking you some questions. Answer those preliminary questions on a few screens (you don't actually have to prepare a return), and then when you are far enough into the process, the left menu column will change, and you'll then see a Tax Home option in the left menu column. Do not click the Documents tab. Instead, click on Tax Home. Then on the Tax Home screen, scroll way down to the bottom to "Your Tax Returns & Documents". Expand that section and choose the past year you want. If your past returns are not shown there, then you likely have multiple accounts and signed into the wrong one. If you have already started a 2025 online return: Log in, and if you've already started a 2025 return in that account, then it may already open at the Tax Home. If not, click the Tax Home tab in the left column menu. Do not use the Documents tab. At the Tax Home scroll down and expand "Your Tax Returns & Documents."

To deduct donations you need to itemize. Then all your dedutions need to be more than the Standard Deduction to be any benefit. Do you have other deductions like state withholding, property tax, mortgage interest, etc. that you can itemize? I think the extra donation deduction doesn't start until next year 2026.

was the health plan with her employer a family plan or self-only? was your personal plan self-only, family or were you covered by her family plan?.
the issue is that with a self-only coverage the maximum is $4300 for her account (not over 55). the same applies to your account if you had self-only coverage. however if either of you had family coverage ($8550 max which can be split anyway you want between the two accounts. you indicate on both family coverage on both HSA forms.
each person can contribute an extra 41000 to their HSA account if 55 or oleder on 12/31/2025.
with self-only coverage (both) any excess must be removed from that account.

First LOG OUT of whatever TurboTax account you're logged into right now. Then use this TurboTax account recovery website to get a list of user ID's for an email address. Run the tool against any email addresses you may have used https://myturbotax.intuit.com/account-recovery/ If you used the Desktop CD/Download program then the only copy is on your computer and not saved or stored online. You can also request a transcript from the IRS https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript

Did you start it online last year? How to finish a return you started online https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/prior-year-return/help/how-do-i-finish-a-prior-year-return-that-i-started-in-turbotax-online/01/26322 How to prepare a prior year return https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/using-turbotax/help/how-do-i-prepare-a-prior-year-tax-return/00/25984 To do a prior year return you have to buy the Desktop program here, https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products You will need Windows 10 or Mac Ventura 13 to install it on. If you can't install the Desktop program or if you have a simple return and want to file for free, you can fill out the blank IRS forms by hand. Here are some basic forms….. Here is the IRS 2024 Form 1040 https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040--2024.pdf or if you want bigger type use 1040SR for Seniors, https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s--2024.pdf And 2024 Instructions https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/i1040gi--2024.pdf Sch 1 : https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s1--2024.pdf Sch 2 : https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s2--2024.pdf Sch 3 : https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s3--2024.pdf Then when you do file 2025 enter 0 for the 2024 AGI since you are filing 2024 late. You have to print and mail prior year returns. When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS received the return. Don’t forget state.
