No I did not do that ... and would not. I want to print a draft of my return to review it, understand new calculations/worksheets, and determine a final estimated payment while waiting for final 1099s etc to arrive. The question was how do I print a draft to review. I do not recall this being an issue in prior years. I will not 'efile then print' as the AI or "champ" user "DoninGA level 15" answer on your help screen suggested. Even if I wanted to, I doubt I could because of the unavailable forms and first date government is accepting efiling! Deliberately filing a return you know is not complete just to get a hard copy, then filing an amended return is .... I'll be kind ... not great advice!

I am having the same issue. For 2024 taxes, I used the premier desktop software. Upon working on/completing my taxes the software would save the file as ".tax2024" and I am able to reopen that file from the premier desktop software. I have my tax file saved to the cloud. Here is where the issue comes in. I have purchased a new Windows computer. I have downloaded the 2024 Premier desktop software and activated it. I run the software, click begin, click browse, and I locate and select the ".tax2024" file I have saved in the cloud. I click open, the software says "reading your return," but nothing opens. I go back to my old computer, open the 2024 premier software, click find tax file, locate and select the ".tax2024" file I have saved in the cloud, click open and the file opens with a message "continuing return." Something is going on where I am unable to open the same tax file in the recently downloaded version of 2024 premier desktop. I have checked for updates and all is good. I hope I don't have this same issue when I download the 2025 version.

You will be able to access the 2023 return you started by using the exact same account and user ID that you used when you started it. But you can no longer use online software for any further changes.
Start a 2025 return online and enter some personal information so that the menu on the left opens up and lets you access your past year returns.
Online tax preparation and e-filing for 2024 returns is now permanently closed.
Now it is too late to use online software or to e-file. If you have any changes/corrections at all to make to your 2024 return, you now have to complete it using desktop software, which you must download to a full PC or Mac (not to a mobile device). Then you need to print, sign and mail it.

If you already paid for your online software you can ask customer support for a download of the desktop software.
They are available from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific time Monday - Friday

If you are getting a refund, there is no penalty for filing late. If you owe tax due, then file and pay the amount due as shown on the Form 1040, but expect a bill later from the IRS for the penalty and interest you will owe. Only the IRS will calculate this—TurboTax will not calculate it.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

I share everyone's disappointments expressed in this entire thread. The fact this "tool" is not able to be used at a critical time of year for tax planning is an egregious error on Intuit's part. To top it off, in calling TurboTax Support, the agent I spoke to was unaware of the extreme lack of functionality, and was unable to offer any solutions, stating that she had heard the company was "waiting on the IRS". It's hard to believe Intuit could be ignorant to the planning and estimating needs of its user community, especially with the extensive nature of this thread, but if the support agents aren't aware, perhaps their heads are in the sand after all. As my return is much too complex to use some of the other estimating tools recommended, I kept trying and I did make a useful workaround discovery last night... at least for Schedule C, you can switch to forms view, enter your information there, and the program seems to calculate using prior year laws. Why Turbotax has the capability to enter disabled in step-by-step is beyond me. They could've avoided all sorts of angst for thousands of people if they had left it open and simply noted it as not being up-to-date. Nonetheless, with mere hours left, I hope someone can find this workaround helpful.

WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY? I WANT THE FREE EDITION
The information that you can enter in Free Edition is pretty limited now. Thanks to the new tax laws that began for 2018 returns, there are no more simple Form 1040EZ or 1040A's. Everything goes on a Form 1040 that has three extra "schedules" with it, and if you need any of those schedules, you are not able to use the Free Edition. Using the standard deduction instead of itemizing does NOT mean you will not need any of those schedules. If you started in the Free Edition and entered any data that required any extra forms or schedules, you have to upgrade to a paid version and if you are watching the screens carefully you are alerted to the upgrade.
TurboTax Online: Important Details about Filing Simple Form 1040 Returns
If you have a simple Form 1040 return only (no forms or schedules except as needed to claim the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit or student loan interest), you can file for free yourself with TurboTax Free Edition, or you can file with TurboTax Live Assisted Basic at the listed price. Roughly 37% of taxpayers are eligible.
Examples of situations included in a simple Form 1040 return (assuming no added tax complexity):
W-2 income
Interest, dividends or original issue discounts (1099-INT/1099-DIV/1099-OID) that don’t require filing a Schedule B
IRS standard deduction
Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)
Child Tax Credit (CTC)
Student loan interest deduction
Taxable qualified retirement plan distributions
Examples of situations not included in a simple Form 1040 return:
Itemized deductions claimed on Schedule A, like charitable contributions, medical expenses, mortgage interest and state and local tax deductions
Unemployment income reported on a 1099-G
Business or 1099-NEC income (often reported by those who are self-employed, gig workers or freelancers)
Stock sales (including crypto investments)
Income from rental property or property sales
Credits, deductions and income reported on other forms or schedules
1095A for marketplace health insurance

To access your current or prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/
Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents. Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)
If you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your computer, the only copy of your tax data file and any PDF's will be on the computer where the return was created. TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.
Go to this IRS website for free transcripts of a federal tax return - https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript
For a fee of $30 you can get a complete federal tax return from the IRS by completing Form 4506 - http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506.pdf

Did you or will you get a tax form for the money that you earned - a W-2, 1099-NEC, 1099-MISC, or other form? Wait until you get the form. They have until the end of January to send it to you. When you get the form, if you have trouble entering it in TurboTax post back here and tell us what kind of form you got and what box of the form has the income in it.
If you do not get a form by early February, or you are 100% sure that you will not get a form, the income should go on Form 1040 line 1h, "Other earned income," not on Schedule 1. Here's how to enter it in TurboTax. This section is not yet ready in TurboTax for 2025. Check back in a couple of weeks.
Go to Federal Taxes > Wages & Income > Less Common Income > Miscellaneous Income > Other income not already reported on a Form W-2 or Form 1099.
The first screen asks "Did you receive any other wages?" Answer Yes.
The next three screens ask about income as a household employee, sick or disability pay, and Medicaid waiver payments. Click Continue on these screens without entering anything.
The next screen, Any Other Earned Income, asks "Did you earn any other wages?" Answer Yes.
The next screen asks for the source of the other earned income. Select Other.
On the next screen enter a short description, such as "Election worker," and enter the amount. Click Done.

I was going to have fiduciary eft the $150 in taxes due. That's what I would do. If you report this on your 1040 for some reason, you won't be able to deduct the legal fees, which you will on a 1041. Simple manual is the way to go.
