HOW CAN I E-FILE STATE AFTER ALREADY E-FILING FEDERAL

New York prefers e-filed returns, but there are certain circumstances that make it necessary for you to file your NY return by mail and the state DOES allow mailed returns. If you could not or did not e-file your federal return then your NY return cannot be e-filed. It has to be mailed. It is not possible to e-file any state return if the federal return was not e-filed and accepted by the IRS.

I need to refile my NY return because it got rejected. TurboTax seems to offer no way to do this after the deadline, yet NY requires e-filing. What do I do?

@Ttly15 You prepared a return for a business? Was it for a c-corps, S-corps, partnership or multimember LLC, or an estate? The only versions of TurboTax Business that you can use online are Live Assisted Business ($739, state additional fee) or Live Full Service Business ($1749, state additional) . The desktop download for TurboTax Business can be downloaded to a computer that uses Windows and that costs about $190-- depending on whether you purchase it from Intuit or from a retailer such as amazon etc. There is no online "do-it-yourself" version of TurboTax Business. If you have a sole proprietorship or are self-employed you can use online Premium or any version of desktop download software to prepare a Schedule C.
How can I see my TurboTax fees?

Unless you have a pdf of the return, you will not be able to open a 2009 return. There is a service called taxprinter.com that can open and print tax files when you do not have a pdf. They are not part of TurboTax and we do not know about their fees.

In 2026 based on my initial scenario, the "clawback" would be approx 12K total but that's only Federal not SE income correct? You have been a huge help. Now I hope the Turbotax program will calculate everything correctly. Yes, only income tax, not SE tax. And only paying income tax on $12k after SAVING tax (both income and SE tax) on $27k seems great. Unfortunately, TurboTax is NOT set up for reporting vehicles (and other assets) that have varied in business percentage each year. While you could enter the manually calculated numbers (like I explained above) in the "Sale of Business Property" section, I don't think that section affects things like the Qualified Business Income deduction and the Home Office limit, like it should. You may consider a tax professional.

I have upgraded my computer many times since 2009 so I no longer have the software installed or the CD. I cleared out paper copies of all returns over 10 years old.

Had anyone successfully gotten a refund from them? I’m in exactly the same boat except I’m being charged $800 for it because it was business tax. I’m talking to the office of the president, and they will review my calls and let me know on Tuesday. If they decline my charge i will file a complaint with the FTB and file a chargeback with my bank.

DID YOU E-FILE?
Did you e-file? Did you go through all three steps of the FILE section and click a big orange button that said “Transmit my returns now?”
When you e-file your return you will get two emails from TurboTax. The first one will say your return has been transmitted; the second one will tell you the IRS has accepted or rejected your federal e-file. If you filed a state return, there will be a third email (usually a day or two later) that tells you if the state e-file was accepted or rejected.
Check your e-file status:
https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/
What does it say in your account? Does it show that the return was accepted? Or does it say something else---like "rejected," "printed," or "ready to mail?”
