And....if your son was paid in cash or was provided with a 1099NEC, he has self-employment income. If he earned at least $400 of self-employment income, your son needs to file a tax return of his own and pay self-employment tax for Social Security and Medicare. If he received a W-2, then he needs to file if his earnings exceeded the standard deduction amount for his filing status or if tax was withheld and he wants to seek a refund. On his return, he must say that he can be claimed as someone else's dependent.

If you did not file your 2019 return, the only way to file it now is by mail, and it is too late to receive a refund---the refund has been forfeited if you did not file it by the three year filing deadline in 2023. You can check to see what is shown in your account---does it say the return was "accepted," "rejected", "printed" or "ready to mail?" If it says anything other than accepted then it was not e-filed successfully. Another way to check is to look for a transcript of the return on the IRS site.
You have to access your own account and/or print it for yourself using exactly the same account and user ID that you used when you prepared the return.

Start a 2024 return online and enter some personal information so that the menu on the left opens up and lets you access your past year returns.

SAVE YOUR TAX RETURNS !
EVERY year before mid-October you should save a copy of your tax return as a pdf and print a copy of it for your records. That way you will not be searching online frantically when you need it for a lender, FAFSA forms, your next tax return, etc.

Your tax refund was not sent to TurboTax. TurboTax does not handle your refund at all.
Santa Barbara Tax Products Group, LLC (SBTPG) is the bank that handles the Refund Processing Service when you choose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your refund. This option also has an additional charge from the bank that processes the transaction.
You can contact them SBTPG, toll-free, at 1-877-908-7228 or go to their secure website www.sbtpg.com

Q. Where do I find this info (prior year Roth IRA contributions)?
A. From your own records. That's not available in TT, unless you previously entered it (current year or previous years).

You got it, but beware payment timing. To see this calculation see lines 1-9 of Form 2210. In your situation with significant increase in tax from year to year you can pay estimated tax based on prior year tax. The only variable from 2025 that matters in that case is any withholding. But the tax has to be paid "timely" - quarterly for estimated taxes; withholding is regarded as timely by default (the total is divided by 4). When you filed for 2024 using TT it would have generated ES vouchers by default based on prior year tax and assuming 2025 withholding will be the same as 2024. Subtract your estimated withholding from the 132k and divide what is left by 4, that's the quarterly payment you need to make / should have made. If you didn't pay this in Q1 and Q2 you will be accruing penalty but you can stop the penalty growing if you pay that in Q3 i.e. by Q3 deadline you need to have paid 75% of that annual ES total and the remaining 25% in January 2026, and the balance due on your return in April 2026. The penalty rate is 8% annually, but would be applied on 25% of the missed ES since Q1 for a few months until you pay it, 25% of the missed ES since Q2, so the penalty is probably not too bad as long as you get the ES caught up. You can also increase withholding to meet more of what is due during the year and reduce the portion due from estimated tax payments, but you only only 6 months left for that to apply.

As for not receiving your Federal refund, first, you need to be sure the return was successfully filed. Sometimes a person may not have gone all the way to the end to complete the filing process, or the efile may have been rejected. It depends on how you chose to file the return. If you filed a paper return by mail, TurboTax does not mail it for you. If you chose that method, you would have had to print it, sign it, date it, and mail it yourself. It takes at least 4 weeks for a mailed return to show up in the IRS WMR tool. If you efiled, double-check to be sure the return was efiled successfully and accepted. If you used Online TurboTax, you can sign into your Online Account and check the efile status at the Tax Home. What word is used there for the status: accepted, rejected, printed, started, ready to mail, or something else? If that showed it was accepted, (or if you mailed a paper return), you can use the "Where's My Refund" tool at the IRS website below to monitor the status of your Federal refund. Is there any message there? https://www.irs.gov/wheres-my-refund If that IRS tool says it's not finding your information, here are some tips: Be sure you enter the correct tax year, SSN, and filing status. Be sure you are using only the Federal refund amount. Do not include any state refund or any total refund or net refund (Fed and State) that TurboTax may have provided on a summary screen. Look at your actual Federal return to get the Federal refund amount to use in the tool, i.e., your Form 1040, Line 35a.

This answer assumes your 2021 return was prepared in Online TurboTax. Any return prepared in desktop TurboTax will not be in an Online account. Here's how one would normally find past-year online returns and how to troubleshoot for multiple accounts (User IDs) if necessary. Many people end up with more than 1 account. The pathway to download the PDF or tax data file depends on whether or not you have started an online 2024 return. I provide both scenarios below, so choose which one is appropriate for your situation. If you have not yet started a 2024 online return: Sign in to your account. What you see next depends on whether or not you have already started a 2024 return in that account. If your left column menu is minimal, and does not have a Tax Home tab displayed, that would imply you have not started preparing a 2024 return in that account. If you haven't yet started a return, it will start asking you some questions. Answer those preliminary questions (you don't actually have to prepare a return), and then when you are far enough into the process the left menu column will change, and you'll then see a Tax Home option. Do not click the Documents tab. Instead, click on Tax Home. Then on the Tax Home screen, scroll way down to the bottom to "Your Tax Returns & Documents". Expand that section and choose the past year you want. If your past returns are not shown there, then you likely have multiple accounts and signed into the wrong one. I'll tell you below how to troubleshoot. If you have already started or finished a 2024 online return: Log in, and if you've already started a 2024 return in that account, then it may already open at the Tax Home. If not, click the Tax Home tab in the left column menu. Do not use the Documents tab. At the Tax Home scroll down and expand "Your Tax Returns & Documents." If the past returns are not there, see the steps below. If you do all that and can't find the past return, here's how to look for multiple accounts: You can have up to 5 accounts that use the same email address for notification purposes. A User ID may be an email address, but it doesn't have to be. It might be only part of an email address, or it can be anything at all. To get a list of your User IDs, reset password, and recover account access, etc., you can use the tool at the link below. When using the Account Recovery tool, try using your phone number first if you can still access it. After that, if necessary, then run the tool on your email address(es) you can access. NOTE: Before running the account recovery tool below, log out of all Intuit accounts including this user forum, or you might end up in a loop. Then clear your browser Internet cache, close your browser, then reopen it, and go to the link below. You may wish to copy this link so you can paste it into the new browser session. https://myturbotax.intuit.com/account-recovery If still no luck after running that on your phone number you can still access and email address(es) that you can access, here's another method: Go back to the tool again, but this time leave the data field blank, scroll down a bit, then choose the small blue link that says "Try something else", and it will look you up by other parameters.
