I have been filing with TT for years. Why is IRS asking me to verify my identity this year? Something changed?
I would like to get reimbursed (in 2025) for long term care insurance premiums from years 2021-2025 (5 years).

I am re-eFiling because TurboTax missed some information and the IRS rejected the forms, and I'm being force to pay again for eFiling. I got an email from TurboTax saying my taxes were rejected because the IRS IP PIN was missing on the forms, but I have never been issue that, I have never had that.   Anyhow, I opened the TurboTax software again and did the "File, Electronic Filing, Check Electronic Filing Status" and it detected that my eFiling had been rejected. Then the software proceed to simply do some checks and when it was done it took me to the eFile screen again, but it is asking me to pay again... not only did I pay almost $100 for the software, then $25 to eFile the State, but now I have to pay another $25 to eFile the State... and I don't know what was fixed since the program does not say what was updated nor did it ask me to update manually anything or to enter any thing. What if I pay again, and it gets rejected again since the software does not show or gives any hints on what was fixed? I can't keep on paying like this... Any advise?

You will be able to access the 2023 return you started by using the exact same account and user ID that you used when you started it.   But you can no longer use online software for any further changes.       Start a 2024  return online and enter some personal information  so that the menu on the left opens up and lets you access your past year returns.   Online tax preparation and e-filing for 2023 returns is now permanently closed.    Now it is too late to use online software or to e-file. If you have any changes/corrections at all to make to your 2023 return, you now have to complete it using desktop software, which you must download to a full PC or Mac  (not to a mobile device). Then you need to print, sign and mail it.   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/printers-printing/finish-prior-year-return-started-turbotax-online/L9Oe4M90A_US_en_US?uid=m68tffpe   If you already paid for your online software you can ask customer support for a download of the desktop software.   They are available from 5 a.m. to 9p.m. Pacific time daily   https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899263-what-is-the-turbotax-phone-number     If you are getting a refund, there is no penalty for filing late.  If you owe tax due, then file and pay the amount due as shown on the Form 1040, but expect a bill later from the IRS for the penalty and interest you will owe.  Only the IRS will calculate this—TurboTax will not calculate it.     When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.   Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.  “21 days”  is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.      First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:  https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/   Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.   You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2024 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:    https://www.irs.gov/refunds   To track your state refund:     https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_US_en_US?uid=lt447ebr   If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing     https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/refunds-take-longer-others/L14YlqFrH_US_en_US?uid=lexdr7zh . https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/irs-refund-taking-longer-21-days/L2vRAJbdU_US_en_US?uid=lexe7lst

Make sure you have entered your child as a dependent in My Info, and that you have entered the child's Social Security number.    Careful— do not say that your child’s SSN is not valid for employment.  If your child was born in 2024 make sure you said he lived with you the whole year.  There is an oddly worded question that asks if the child paid over half their own support.  Say NO to that question.   Have you entered income from working in 2024?  If not,  you will not receive an income tax refund based on having dependent children.     The maximum amount of the child tax credit is now $2000 per child; the refundable “additional child tax credit” amount is $1700.   In order to get that credit, you have to have income from working.   Take the amount you earned from working.   Subtract $2500.   Multiply the rest by 15%.  That is the additional child tax credit per child that you can get—- up to the maximum of $1700 per child.   If the amount you earned from working was low, you will not get the full $1700 per child.    If your child is older than 16 at the end of 2024, you do not get the CTC.  But you may still get the non-refundable $500 credit for other dependents instead.   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/taxation/child-tax-credit/L2lNhfGDl_US_en_US?uid=m68dfq2u   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/taxation/additional-child-tax-credit/L6xFeMFEf_US_en_US?uid=lqnuygah https://www.irs.gov/help/ita/does-my-childdependent-qualify-for-the-child-tax-credit-or-the-credit-for-other-dependents     And for the Earned Income Credit—-   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-credits-deductions/qualifications-earned-income-credit-eic-eitc/L7w4BFP32_US_en_US?uid=m62rmz09   https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/individuals/earned-income-tax-credit/use-the-eitc-assistant   https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p596.pdf   Look at your 2024 Form 1040 to see the child-related credits you received   PREVIEW 1040 https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/preview-turbotax-online-return-filing/L77WCkvnu_US_en_US?uid=m681fkhr   Child Tax Credit line 19 Credit for Other Dependents line 19 Earned Income Credit line 27 Additional Child Tax Credit line 28

no. you report your section 1256 net on form 6781. if this is personal, net 1256 losses will flow to schedule D to be offset by other capital gains if you have them. in any event, net capital losses for personal income tax purposes are limited to $3000 ($1500 if MFS).  you may also have the option to carry back net 1256 losses to prior years. there are special rules for this in the form 6781 instructions for box D. https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f6781.pdf

what type of return are you trying to do. a 1040 does not require this info. so it would seem you are trying to do either a 1065, 1120  or 1120-S.  whether the vehicle should be reflected on the return depends on who has title to the vehicle. assuming title is in the name of the business the proper line is the one for depreciable assets. the depreciation is reported on the next line.   if you are not familiar with reporting the business activity perhaps you should consult a tax pro for guidance since there are many rules. then next year you could try doing the return on your own. this forum seems many threads about business returns where the taxpayer cannot balance the balance sheet and has other reporting issues.  This forum can't see the return or know what transpired,

Thanks Mike, No, I don't expect a full file that I can just file, but I read that I should be able to export the content and all my details/income/deductions etc. so that I can import them into the desktop version. However I cannot find the 2023 information anywhere. No pdf or .tax file. Like NOTHING is there as if I never even started. So can I somehow pay the fees that you are referring to and recover the 2023 information?

Unclear if you transfer the data from 2023 to the 2024 return without paying any fees that might be owed.
I had everything in, but was waiting on a final detail and never submitted... I need to get that info out and file before adding my 2024 info to the website.
