If you would like to send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information it would help. If you would like to do this, here are the instructions: (Don't forget to give us the state)
TurboTax Online:
Open your return -Go to the menu panel on the left side of your return and select Tax Tools.
Then select Tools below Tax Tools.
A window will pop up which says Tools Center.
On this screen, select Share my file with Agent.
You will see a message explaining what the diagnostic copy is. Click okay through this screen and then you will get a Token number.
Reply to this thread with your Token number and your state. This will allow us to open a copy of your return without seeing any personal information.
TurboTax Desktop:
If you like, you can send a copy of your return that will be scrubbed to eliminate your personal data by using these steps:
Click on Online in the top left menu of TurboTax Desktop for Windows
Select 'Send Tax File to Agent'* > Follow the prompts to reach the token number.
Enter your email used for TurboTax > Enter your code > Send
Write down or send an image of your token number and state then place in this issue.
We can then review your exact scenario for a solution.
Please also tell us any states included in the return. This is necessary for us to view the return.
*If using a MAC, go to the menu at the top of the screen, select Help, then, 'Send Tax File to Agent')
We will be able to see exactly what you are seeing and we can determine what exactly is going on in your return to provide you with a resolution.

Update your banking information by selecting File from the lefthand menu, and follow the on-screen prompts to re-enter your correct account details.
Generally, you should wait until your original tax filing was accepted by the federal and state authorities before attempting to amend your returns. FAQ guidance:
What should I know before amending my return?
Here are some things to know before you begin:
Make sure you really need to amend.
Wait until your return has been accepted (or mailed if paper-filing).
Use the same TurboTax account you used to file your original return.
Once you begin your amendment, you'll see your original return. Only make changes to the areas of your return that need amending. The refund calculator will start new at $0 and only reflect the changes in the refund or tax due.
Any changes you make to amend your federal return will automatically be transferred over to your state return.
Verify that the the federal taxes paid in box 4 on your 1099-G has been typed in correctly, and round the amount up to the nearest whole dollar value (without cents on the end) if necessary.
Is there any more detail from the IRS-related error message that you can share?

I forgot to include my political contribution credit on my Oregon return, so I wanted to amend it. After a few false starts, I eventually got to a screen that asked me to enter a note for why I was amending, but I didn't actually make any changes before continuing (which was probably a mistake). It then did a review and asked me to download. I did so, but realized that nothing had been done, so I cancelled the amendment and started over. But now, it thinks I've filed an amendment, and it won't let me make any changes! If I start the amendment over and click the pencil (edit) icon for my state return, it goes straight to the review step. Has anyone encountered this? And if so, can you suggest how to fix it? The "helpful" AI said I should delete my entire return and start over.

Yes. I tried going through the step by step and entering the state K-1 instead of the Activity Worksheet, but it did not work. I tried paying $50 for the TurboTax expert help, but the person was clueless and said that a Maryland Certified person would call me back, which they did not.

Thanks. I'm not sure why changing the date of entry into service to a point past the midpoint of the original month (12/98) makes a difference, but it yields a 2025 depreciation which is the full, correct amount ($6,413). I also tried reducing prior depreciation by $267, but this only increased the 2025 depreciation allowance by $10.

If you know the capital loss carryover to 2025, you do not have to wait to file it even though you are amending your 2024 return. The IRS will review when the amended return is received.
The amendment can be completed using the steps in the link below and if necessary you can use the IRS transcript for your original 2023 or 2024 tax return.

You should answer "No", because the software is asking if the entire pension payment is taxable.
Since you paid into a retirement account, answering no will trigger the additional follow-up questions so that you can input your cost basis.
If you are unsure of your cost basis, check your annual statements and review your total contributions.
The software will help you with calculations once you have inputted that amount.

If you requested to have the TurboTax account fees deducted from your federal tax refund, the IRS will send the refund to a third party processor to have the fees and the $40 service charge deducted. The third party processor will deduct the TurboTax fees plus the $40 service charge and then attempt to direct deposit the remaining refund balance into the account that you entered on your tax return.
For the status of your tax refund you will need to contact the third party processor, Santa Barbara Tax Product Group, using their website - https://www.sbtpg.com/
