If you filed in March, then you return should be processed by now. You can go to your IRS account and see if it shows the balance due. You will also be able to see if they did send you any letter that may have got lost in the mail. If you have a balance, you should be able to apply for the payment plan. However, you can apply for a payment plan prior to them processing and seeing your balance. To request a long-term payment plan, use the Online Payment Agreement application. Even if the IRS hasn’t yet issued you a bill, you may establish a pre-assessed agreement by entering the balance you’ll owe from your tax return. An online payment agreement is quick and has a lower user fee compared to other application methods. If you are being rejected, maybe try a different computer to see if it is a tech issue? Otherwise, the IRS is the only one who can tell you what is happening.

The IRS requires a return to be filed if someone receives self-employment income in excess of $400 a year. This doesn't count as self-employment income but the IRS has no way of knowing that because it was reported on a 1099-NEC. So you have two options-
Since it was not self-employment income the amount received falls below the required amount to file a tax return. You can skip it and see if the IRS sends a letter about it or not. If they do you can file a return at that time.
Or you can file a return right now for your minor child. Make sure to check the box at the beginning that says that they can be claimed as a dependent on someone else's tax return. Then enter the 1099-NEC form as it was received. The system will ask a number of questions. Make certain to answer that this was not an attempt to earn money and it was not a job. That should place it on line 8 of form 1040 and because it is the only income on your child's tax return there will be no refund or tax due.

Did you file an original return? If you did, and nothing changed on the amended return, no harm no foul. Nothing will change. If you did not file an original return and only sent an amended return, you can go to delete a form and delete the 1040X and then file your actual return.
From the left rail menu in TurboTax Online, select Tax Tools (You may have to scroll down on the left rail menu.)
On the drop-down select Tools
On the Pop-Up menu titled “Tools Center,” select Delete a Form
This will show all of the forms in your return
Scroll down to the form you want to delete
Select the Form
Click on Delete.
Always use extreme caution when deleting information from your tax return. There could be unintended consequences.

"Is the deadline for making a SEP contribution from a two member LLC the same as for a self employed individual" If a request for extension is timely filed, the deadline to make the SEP contribution is 6 months after the regular filing deadline. For calendar-year filers who have timely requested a filing extension, the deadline to make the SEP contribution for 2024 is October 15, 2025 for sole-proprietors and September 15, 2025 for a partnership.

In preparing my 2024 taxes in TurboTax I found an error in my 2023 deductions claimed. I did a typo for mortgage interest paid. Instead of 29,990.00 it should have been 2,990.00. This reduced my federal taxes refund by 1,295. So I need to file an amended return and pay the Fed’s $1,295 and the state 371. When I open TurboTax and select to process an amended return the state indicates I owe them the correct amount of $371 but it shows a refund from the feeds of an additional 206 dollars. I know that is not correct because I have created a new TurboTax file using the correct deduction and it tells me the amount I should have had refunded me and it is $1,295 lower than what they gave me. So now what do I do.

If you did not rollover the funds then the distribution is taxable in 2024. You need to contact the custodian to correct your Form 1099-R.

There laws conflict with each other. Yes, you can file a joint Illinois return if you are filing a joint federal return. However, NC basis her residency status off of her actual situation without regards to your situation. This means since she lives there she is a resident there and has to file as a resident. You may find it easier to just file a resident state for yourself for IL and a Non Resident return for NC for the rental income reporting half of it and half of the expenses. Then just have her file a Resident return for NC.
What are my options for filing a joint return with my spouse? Spouses who file a joint federal return may elect to file a joint Illinois return. If you file a joint Illinois return, and one spouse is an Illinois resident while the other is not, both spouses must be treated as Illinois residents (or as part-year residents for the same period).

@CatinaT1 wrote: The TurboTax user license allows one user to install copies of TurboTax on up to five computers that the user owns. You can prepare multiple returns, including returns for other people. The license does not allow one copy to be shared among different people. You are required to log into your TurboTax online account when you install the program for the first time. This locks one particular copy of the program and one license code to one user account. Quite aware of all this, thanks. I'm logging into the same Intuit account, as mentioned earlier. The same computer with the same computer user (in my case) is randomly requiring re-activation on launch until the 5 computer activations are used up, as mentioned earlier. That's exactly what this thread is about. The software is not working as you describe for everyone. There's a critical software activation bug that is affecting certain users, as it has for the last few versions of Turbotax. I'd appreciate it if you read the contents of this thread before posting additional "helpful" suggestions. It's condescending to skip over 3 pages of detailed posts about a bug and just assume that users are at fault. Better yet, if you can convince ANYONE from the Turbotax product team to read this thread, that would be the best solution.
