This not a question, just a statement to be cautious and double check to be sure TT calculated tax on Social Security benefits.  I didn't and was expecting a return,  but IRS discovered an error in TT calculated tax on SS benefits and I now owe IRS.  In checking the SS Benefits Worksheet, the error appeared in the TT calculation on line 17 of the worksheet, (Multiply line 1 85% (0.85)).  Well, in my case the amount TT calculated on line 17 was only 26.5% instead of the full 85%.  So please be cautious and double check your tax on SS  benefits to ensure correctness,

To amend a return you did somewhere else, you would first have to fill out Turbo Tax like you are doing the original return and pay for it.  You have to recreate the actual wrong original return.  Then when it matches each line that you really filed you have to tell Turbo Tax you will mail it so it thinks it was filed.  Then you can amend it.   For prior years you have to buy the Desktop program.  You can only buy the download for prior years.  You have to buy a separate program for each year.  They only sell the last 3 years.  You need a full Windows or Mac computer to install it on.  Buy the download here      https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/   If you don't have the original Turbo Tax  .tax file you have to first recreate the actual wrong original return.  You can use the Forms Mode.  Then when it matches each line that you really filed you have to tell Turbo Tax you will mail it so it thinks it was filed.  Then you can amend it.  You will have to print and mail amended returns.

Please see the other post with a similar title.    I recently received a letter 12C with this same issue. I double checked my pdf file vs the tax forms, and everything matched.  I have sent my 1095-A form with a copy of the letter, as requested in the letter.  I am waiting on a response or processing of my return.     I wonder if there is a glitch in the processing program related to this issue?   You are not alone.

@Slongs84 wrote: The bank account info I don’t think is correct  Also, if you chose to pay any TurboTax fees out of your Federal refund, the IRS sends your refund first to a temporary bank account at a third-party bank where the fees are subtracted.   Then that bank sends the rest to your bank account (or card) in a second direct deposit.   If you used that option, and if the IRS has released your refund, we can tell you more about how to check on it at the third-party company that administers that (SBTPG).

Thanks for the response. My brother's CPA absolutely refuses to use the credit. My brother asked him to call me, which he did in late in March - and said he never heard this. I told him the Pub number and asked him to read it. He then told my brother the credit was not allowed and he refused to add the credit to his return with no explanation why other than he read the Pub and it wasn't allowed. I don't do his return because he is remarried and he didn't want me to do an amended return - probably for privacy reasons. I told him to use AARP next year. Free and they know the rules. Pat

Your tax return is the form you send to the state that shows your income and calculates your tax. The money that the state sends back to you is your refund. You will not receive your state return. You sent your return to the state. After the state processes your state tax return you will receive your refund. TurboTax does not get any information from the state about when you will get your refund. The only way to get the status of your state refund is on the state's tax web site, or by contacting the state tax department. Go to the following link and click the name of your state. How do I track my state refund?

@dhayles62    1)  You don't owe NC "Federal" taxes....you might owe NC "NC State" taxes......depending on how much income you made for the year. ________________________________ 2) You need to file an NC Part-Year tax return.......in the Personal Info/My Info section of the tax preparation, you need to indicate you were an NC resident at the end of 2024, and then indicate you moved From TX.  That will initiate the NC Part-Year tax return.   3) you need to fully fill in all of the Federal tax area, with ALL of your sources of income for the entire year.  Once that is done and error checked......   4)  You start the NC part-year tax return.  NC uses ALL your yearly income to calculate a total taxable income..(which, at first, seems wrong) BUT...the software will then lead you thru a bunch of questions where you will indicate/allocate what sub-part of your total yearly income was actually earned and received while living/working in NC.  That allocation of income part will chop down your total yearly income, to the actual NC-related income.....and then apply the NC tax to that chopped down NC-Income.   Whether any NC taxes are actually due will be determined that way.    Any interest, capital gains, and dividends you received after moving to NC must be included in your NC allocations. ___________________________ I haven't done an NC part-year allocation myself recently...but a couple of the allocation pages used to look something like this:   ___________________________

See this help page below which refers to process for filing prior year 8606, if it didn't affect prior year tax you just need to mail the form not amend your 2023 return.  When you do 2024 tax you'll need to provide the 2023 basis during the interviews, as it obviously wouldn't carry over.   the $425 will be taxable, form 8606 for 2024 will calculate the taxable portion of the conversion.   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/retirement-benefits/enter-backdoor-roth-ira-conversion/L7gGPjKVY_US_en_US
