Hi, I encountered this issue as well and basically just ignored it and filed anyway. Waiting to see if my return will be accepted. Was yours accepted?

Quick follow up... I did some more looking online and it appears that the MA student loan interest deduction is tied to the Federal one.  I.e., if they cannot take the Federal one, then they can't take the MA one.  I am not 100% certain of this though as they cannot take the Federal deduction since they can be claimed as a dependent by us, but the software knows this and is still allowing the MA deduction for it.  I would think that the software would know (it knew that they couldn't take the Federal student loan interest deduction).  In the end, we're only talking about a $20 difference, so it may not be worth it, but we'd all prefer they don't pay any more in taxes than they have to.

If you are a resident of WV, but in 2024 you spent less than 30 days in the state, you need to go back to the residency section at the beginning of the WV tax return, and change your West Virginia Residency to  Special Nonresident (Form IT-140).   Next, on Tell Us Your State of Residence, choose Out of State. If that is your situation, your active duty military pay will be exempt from WV tax.

Hello,   I am single, under age 55.  I was covered by an HDHP for May through Dec of 2024.  I had no coverage before that, and beginning Jan 2025 I am no longer covered.   As such I have no intention to use the "last-month rule", because I will not satisfy the "testing period", and hope the last-month rule will not somehow be automatically applied.   In the Instructions for form 8889 (2024) - Part I - Line 3, it gives a list of possible rules to apply in determining what amount to enter on line 3.  But it doesn't seem to me that any of those rules apply to me.  What instructions do I follow to determine an amount to enter?   Thank you.

bcv, I sincerely appreciate all of your input on this issue. Thank you very much. I have the paper1099s ready to mail and will be working on the returns later today. I have been contemplating making a call to the pension admin company tomorrow morning as a last shot to see if there is any chance that they will issue corrected 1099-Rs. If by some miracle they agree, I will request an extension. If not, I will proceed with filing. Again, Thank you very much!

I am trying to amend a personal 2020 1040 return. When I open the file it asks me to download the GA forms, which I already paid for in 2020, but I receive a 190 error because GA no longer supports the form.  At this point it does not allow the user to move forward or open the 1040.  How do I move forward with amending the return?
