If you're using TurboTax Desktop, make sure your program is updated.  You can do a Manual Update.    If this doesn't resolve the error, go back to your K-1 entry and enter $0 in Box R on the K1 and Report $23,000 on line 6a and $7500 on line 6c of the worksheet.   If you're using TurboTax Online, clear your Cache and Cookies and step through the section again.    Let us know if it doesn't resolve for you.   Here's more info on Entering a Solo 401K Contribution.   @dd8840

You can enter the 1099-MISC and not have it create a Schedule C, if you answer the questions so that TurboTax doesn't "think" it represents self-employment.   If you enter it in the 1099-MISC section, you have the option to select that none of the description choices applies, and then to enter your own explanation. Say "no" to the question about it involving work and "no" to the question about it involving an intent to earn money.   If you put it in Miscellaneous Income, Other Reportable Income, it does say not to put a 1099-MISC there but you can make the entry there. It just asks for a description and amount and doesn't have follow up questions.   @BigTegan

Ah, figured it out. Turbotax was carrying a $0 in Federal Tax withheld, which it counted as an entry and requires an EIN. I deleted the "0" and it worked.

@hno4 wrote: Got it thanks, to clarify, if I rent for 4 months, then personal usage for 1 year and rent for another 4 months, the depreciation will restart to accumulate for my 2nd rental, as it should not include my personal use between 2 rentals? let me know if I understand correctly.   Yes.   However, can I ask why it is being rented for 4 months on-and-off?  The point I'm getting at is "Nonqualified Use" when you sell.  Generally, when you use the home for your Principal Residence AFTER it is not your Principal Residence (such as renting it out), that triggers "Nonqualified Use" (although there are exceptions, which is why I asked why are you renting it out).   The problem with Nonqualified Use is that your $250,000/$500,000 Principal Residence exclusion is prorated when you sell.  A severely simplified version is let's say you own the house for exactly 10 years and it was rented exactly 1 years (and you used the home as your Principal Residence AFTER it was rented).  In that example, 1/10th (10%) of the profit would not qualify for the tax-free exclusion (in addition to the tax from the gain due to depreciation).
Turbotax is automatically giving me the Deluxe version (129.00).  I want the 79.00 version without tax professionals filing my stuff.  It is not giving the option to choose this.  Please help
why can't you import my Schwab 1099B? It is your partner!

Answer all follow-up screens You would enter all of your Forms W-2 in the federal section of TurboTax. When you get to the state filings, you should enter your nonresident state return (MA) first because your resident state might give you a credit for any taxes paid in that state..   I don't know if you entered your nonresident tax return first but you should complete your nonresident returns first. You may want to try to delete your state tax returns and re-enter again.     The only other thing I can suggest is to try contacting TurboTax Customer Service. They may be able to share your screen to see what is happening. We got the IND-517-02 rejection code. I'm trying to confirm that that means it's the second dependent listed on our return. When we first got it, I assumed it was my son who recently filed his taxes incorrectly indicating that no one else can claim him as a dependent.  However, if, as I believe, the 02 means that it's the second listed dependent, that indicates it's my daughter -- who doesn't file taxes.   I know in either case we now need to print and file by mail -- but can someone confirm my understanding of the code so that I can take the appropriate steps.  Is there anyway my co-filing wife could be "01" and my son "02"?
When entering the 1099 NEC, it asks if the payers # is in SSN or EIN form, and I said SSN form and entered that. And now it's asking for the EIN but I don't have one.

Hi experts,     I and family (spouse and child) just move in the U.S at the end of Dec-2024. We had GC on that day. During tax year 2024, I and spouse just have income from outside U.S (not from U.S companies and source of U.S) plus a portion of K-1. My concerns are:   1. Should I and my spouse be treated as residency alien for the full tax year 2024 ? If YES, what's kind of income sources have to be filed? just K-1 or everything world wide ?  2. If filing as dual-status, what's kind of income sources have to be filed in which forms?   3. How can I file tax credit for amount tax paid from foreign income? during the time of nonresident of the year 2024   Thank a lot for your advises
