If you did not have a Marketplace policy because you had insurance at work and the policy was cancelled for nonpayment, just omit the 1095-A and see if you are able to file.

You have qualified for the standard deduction, so that amount will be used in the computation of tax until you've entered enough itemized deductions to exceed the standard deduction.     Meaning, the deductions will not change the meter until they are over the threshold.  The standard deduction is $29,200 for a joint return and $14,600 for a single person.  Once your itemized deductions are more than that, the meter will change with each additional allowable expense.   Here is an article you may find helpful: Standard Deduction vs. Itemized Deductions: Which Is Better?
Thank you!
Did you enter the payment as a payment in TurboTax?  If not TurboTax will not recognize payments without being told they were made.

Turbo tax 2024 Premier - I have an inherited 403b. My 1099-R has box 7 (code 4 - death) and the SEP/IRA/SIMPLE box is not checked. When I enter that into Turbo tax, it does not take me to the part where it asks, "Was it inherited?". I think it assumes that the 403b is mine. In the past, it always took me to the inherited question. If I check the SEP/IRA/SIMPLE box, it takes me to the inherited question, but that is not correct and not what my 1099-R says. Please help me complete this section correctly. Thanks.

Do you mean you started a 2023 return last year but did not finish it?    You will be able to access the 2023 return you started by using the exact same account and user ID that you used when you started it.   But you can no longer use online software for any further changes.       Start a 2024  return online and enter some personal information  so that the menu on the left opens up and lets you access your past year returns.   Online tax preparation and e-filing for 2023 returns is now permanently closed.    Now it is too late to use online software or to e-file. If you have any changes/corrections at all to make to your 2023 return, you now have to complete it using desktop software, which you must download to a full PC or Mac  (not to a mobile device). Then you need to print, sign and mail it.   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/printers-printing/finish-prior-year-return-started-turbotax-online/L9Oe4M90A_US_en_US?uid=m68tffpe   If you already paid for your online software you can ask customer support for a download of the desktop software.   They are available from 5 a.m. to 9p.m. Pacific time daily   https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899263-what-is-the-turbotax-phone-number     If you are getting a refund, there is no penalty for filing late.  If you owe tax due, then file and pay the amount due as shown on the Form 1040, but expect a bill later from the IRS for the penalty and interest you will owe.  Only the IRS will calculate this—TurboTax will not calculate it.     When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.   Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
"Great news! You don't need to report this form. It looks like form 1099-Q won't affect your taxes, so you can just skip this step. We'll take the form off your return."

CAN I USE TURBOTAX TO AMEND IF THE RETURN WAS PREPARED SOMEWHERE ELSE?   If you did not use TurboTax to prepare your tax return, it is possible to amend the return using TurboTax but it will really be a pain.  It would be better to use the software or service used to file originally.  If a paid preparer made a mistake on your tax return, that tax preparer should do the amended return for you at no charge. In order to use TurboTax to amend your return, you need to purchase the desktop software for the tax year and re-create the return EXACTLY as it appeared when it was filed with the IRS/states.  Every line has to be the same.  Then you have to "trick" the software into thinking you filed by saying you will mail the return. (but do not mail it)   AFTER that, you use the software to prepare a Form 1040X, which has to be printed, signed and mailed to the IRS.  It takes the IRS about 4-6  months to process an amended return

When I enter my mortgage interest info it is not calculating on the tax owed meter - nothing happens. I am qualfied for it, no refinancing and I meet all  the requirements and loan is secured and all of htat - I have rread a lot of other posts about this problem. If you have a 6 digit PIN issued to you by the IRS you need to enter it in order to e-file.  Go to Federal>Other Tax Situations>Other Return Info>Identity Protection PIN and enter the six-digit PIN.

In order to qualify for the California renter's credit, all of the following must apply: You paid rent in California for at least 1/2 the year The property was not tax exempt Your California AGI was: $52,421 or less if your filing status is single or married/registered domestic partner (RDP) filing separately $104,842 or less if you are married/RDP filing jointly, head of household, or qualified widow(er) You did not live with someone who can claim you as a dependent You or your spouse/RDP were not given a property tax exemption during the tax year I just looked at a California test return and experimented with increasing the federal income and adjusting the California income, and the California return still had the renter's credit if the California AGI was under the limit.   You might go through the California adjustments to income section in the California interview again and make sure the California AGI is correct.   In the alternative, you could see this help article and this one for instructions on how to contact TurboTax customer support depending on which product you are using.
