This is quite typical when it comes to reverse mortgages. TurboTax thinks it will see a Form 1098 because most traditional mortgages generate deductible interest. However, the reverse mortgage does not have interest to pay until the end of the loan, so normally there would be no 1098 issued. If you do not have a Form 1098 to report mortgage interest, you can skip this section or enter "0" on the mortgage interest field so TurboTax can continue. It is not advisable to add false material so it would have acceptable information to work with, because you will create more errors later. If you feel that you should still check into how reverse mortgage interest works, the reverse mortgage calculator - reverse.mortgage/calculator explains how your balance increases each month instead of you paying it off over time, so there is no Form 1098.

If you used Online TurboTax for 2024, you'll need a PDF of your 2024 return that includes all the worksheets. One of the worksheets is called "Charitable Contributions Summary" that would have a list of your cash and non-cash contributions as well as any contribution carryovers to 2025 (if you have any.) This time of year is normally a limbo period for getting an online 2024 PDF since TurboTax folks are archiving the files, and the PDFs are normally temporarily unavailable while they undergo that process. You can look to see if you can get it yet (mine is not visible yet.) To do that, log in and go the Tax Home (it may open there.) On the Tax Home page scroll down to the section "Your Tax Returns & Documents", and see if 2024 is listed among the tax years.

W11 is not needed if you use online. however, if you use desktop then your options are:
1) installing W11 on a W10 computer either as a virtual machine or on a partition of your hard drive or second hard drive. These may not work for everyone. Instructions are available on the web. Some say that modifications to the W10 registry will allow you to install Turbotax 2025 on W10.
2)switch to online. see this thread for instructions
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/uninstall-products/switch-turbotax-cd-download-turbotax-online/L4awg8jwG_US_en_US?uid=mhssmk02
3) buy a W11 computer. some W11laptops are pretty cheap.
4) bite the bullet and switch to a different app
anything suggested in 1) may void the Turbotax accuracy guarantee. Security may also be an issue

generally, gifts are never deductible. the exceptions are those business related as follows:
1) business gifts of $25 per year per recipient.
2) items costing $4 or less that contain an imprint of the taxpayer's name and the item is one of a number of identical items the taxpayer widely distributes
3) signs, display racks, or other promotional materials used on the business premises of the recipient
4) incidental costs but only if it does not add substantial value to the gift
5) awards of tangible property costing $400 or less given to an employee for length of service or safety achievement. if the award is part of an established written plan that does not discriminate in favor of highly compensated employees the max is $1,600 annually per employer (not employee)

I'm trying to finalize my 2024 tax return. I use TurboTax Premier software on my PC. I imported data from my broker earlier this year, but in reviewing it I see that the software didn't download all of the stock transactions. For three accounts, it only downloaded the interest and dividend information. I tried to import the data this evening, but I am getting the message: "No documents currently available for import. According to (brokerage firm), documents will be ready for import on following dates..." It then lists 1099-B, etc. being available Feb 14, 2026. But that will be for the 2025 tax year! And I am trying to get the transactions for the 2024 tax year. I spoke with my brokerage firm, and they told me that the data is there and available and that I needed to contact/work with TurboTax to download the data. I tried to download other financial institutions also, and I'm getting the same message with my bank and other brokerages, e.g."no documents currently available for import". I would think you should be able to download/import data through the end of the year. Can anyone help?

Hi, I'm using the online IRS withholding estimator to determine how much I may owe for tax year 2025. However, there is no place to enter the extra withholding amount I've currently set up for me and my wife (we are filing jointly). Does anyone know how to account for the extra withholding I'm currently doing?

And whatever you do---do not click on anything that says "amend" for a tax return that has not ever been filed in the first place. You do not use "amend" on a return that was not filed. The only way you are going to be able to file that 2024 state return is by mail. E-filing is closed. You will have to print it, sign and date it in ink, and mail it to the state in an envelope.

When did you file? Did you efile? Was it Accepted? Did you go all the way through the File tab, through the 3 steps and hit the big orange Transmit Returns Now button? You can check your efile status here https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/ When you efile you get back 2 emails. The first email only confirms the transmission. The second email says if the IRS (or state) Accepted or Rejected your efile. When you log into your account you should also see the status and if it was Accepted or Rejected, Started, Printed, Ready to Mail, etc. what does it say? If it says Ready to Mail that means you are suppose to print and mail your return to the IRS. .
