If you get a penalty on 1040 line 38…… You might be able to eliminate it or at least reduce it. You can go to Federal Taxes tab or Personal tab, under Other Tax Situations and select Start by the Underpayment Penalties. You will answer a series of questions that may reduce or eliminate the penalty. Or you can elect to have the IRS figure the penalty for you. It's form 2210. It's under Federal or Personal (for Home & Business Desktop) Other Tax Situations Additional Tax Payments Underpayment Penalties - Click the Start or update button If you have the desktop program you can switch to Forms Mode (click forms in the upper right (left for Mac)) and open the 2210 form. If the 2210 doesn't show up in the left column, click on Open Forms at the top of the left column. Type 2210 in the search box and open the 2210 form. Check box C if you want to let the IRS calculate it.

This bug is a shocking situation as I don't get how TT has not fixed this by now in a software update. Part of what I paid over $147.00 for this software was Supposed to make doing my taxes Easier. If I have to manually enter data when the IMPORT feature is boldly stated at point of sale this is falsely representing what the software is supposed to deliver. I went into the FORMS view and YES the imported info was partially missing! Shouldn't a bug of this type been found before MARCH 11 of the tax year?

It wasn't only received in the current year. That was the problem. Feel free to stop responding as I am done. You didn't fix the problem.

2024: Since you filed MFJ and your wife was NRA in 2024, you may have made the election to treat your spouse as a US resident for tax purposes. Which means, all worldwide income must be included. Since your wife filed a CA return, you will be able to add her income and a credit for foreign tax paid on that income.
Amend - add income to 1040 and foreign tax credit on Form 1116. Double check that your return included the election to treat spouse as a resident since this election required a signed statement attached to your return. You may need to include Form 8938 FATCA.
Each year, check if you need to file FATCA and FBAR . Here is a comparison of the FATCA (Form 8938) and FBAR requirements.
2025:
Canada: I am not a Canada expert but she is married to you and living outside of Canada with a US green card so I find it unlikely that she would be a resident. When she reports her rental house that is US income to Canada, she can claim a credit for foreign tax paid.
US: Owning a business along with the rental house and any other income will be reported on the US tax return. All world-wide income goes on the US return. The tax charged by Canada on the business and other Canadian income will go on the Form 1116 for tax credit to the US for tax paid to Canada.
Can you do this in TurboTax and should you are probably different answers. Yes you can file with TurboTax. It may be worth hiring a professional that specialized in the US -Canada cross border tax for this year so you can better learn all the rules and what you need to do this year. Then, you can file with us with confidence after that.
TurboTax does have the Canadian and American software and there is help in both communities. Having one person get it right to start with, really sounds great: but, I don't know if you can find one in Guam or if your wife knows somebody that knows somebody.

I have been waiting for 20 min for my tax expert and has not showed up on my desktop. I am angry as I built my day around this appointment. There is no ability to reach out to anyone.

Please provide the rejection error code and message, and someone will likely be familiar with it.

I am filing my tax return, and everything checks out except this return worksheet. It says I should input some information in my enrollment but does not show where. How do I fix that?

Say all of it is the RMD. If you are the age required to take a IRA or 401K RMD it will ask you if a pension is the RMD. Say yes. Anything your pension pays you is considered to be the RMD. Traditional pensions automatically fulfill the rules of an RMD. So for the RMD question put in the same amount as box 1.

It depends. The software notes are explaining that property taxes are not limited to your home when you itemized your deductions, unlike mortgage interest. This doesn't mean you can use the property taxes in both places.
However, it gets a bit complicated for the software to know what to put in each property when rental homes are involved.
It's important to enter your property taxes for each rental in the activity for that rental, then only enter your home property tax in itemized deductions.

(i.e. if box 2a has a real value...somewhat lower than box 1 due to after-tax contributions you made)...then you need to answer YES. _____________________________

If you have not yet entered the $6,600 Roth IRA contribution that you intend to make, TurboTax will not prepare Form 8880. Also, if you failed to properly tell TurboTax that the distribution from the traditional IRA was converted to Roth, the amount distributed from the traditional IRA will be subtracted from the $6,600 on Form 8880 line 5. With these properly entered, your Form 8880 should have $6,600 on line1, 3 and 5, and nothing on line 4 (assuming that you received no distributions in 2022 or later that are required to be included on line 4). The amount of the credit will then be based on your filing status.

I'm not sure if this is an appropriate question for here but....My primary residence is in Idaho, but I also have a non-primary residence in Utah. I have a part-time job where I physically work in Utah. My tax person is telling me that my employer should be withholding Idaho tax withholding, not Utah. My employer tells me that because work is performed in Utah I should have Utah tax withholding withheld. Who is correct?

When you're calculating deductions and such per quarter most things just get divided by 4. Anything that you are spending money on regularly does, anyway. But if you pay all of your life insurance in January then that deduction goes in quarter one, and so on.
In your case the deductions aren't really that important. You can spread them out evenly. The income is the big deal and you want to make sure that shows that it was primarily the 3rd quarter that need ed the payment.

@t12817.ta That question varies widely based on what state you are filing for. For most state's its None of the above.....PA and NJ are known to vary from that...might be a few more.
