When an e-file is rejected you receive an email with a rejection message or a rejection code. Most rejections (not all) are for AGI. Whatever the reason for the rejection, at this point it is too late for you to e-file a past year return. E-filing is permanently closed for 2024 or any earlier tax year, so the only way for you to file your tax return is by mail. Print it, sign and date it in ink, and mail it in.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

Just a few thoughts: Are you SURE you are not a dependent of your father? Is your tax return late, or are you in an area that had a disaster-postponement so the tax return is not late? Showing you have been compliant with filing tax return is one of the factors for citizenship, so if your tax return was not filed on time that could be a factor. Although extensions are an option, the original due date was April 15th.

see this IRS webpage for clarification of injured vs innocent spouse.
note that if this is a case of the balance of taxes due not being paid(rather than errors in the joint return), the IRS can pursue both parties. In this case it is not a DIY project. seek professional help.

You will be able to access the 2024 return you started by using the exact same account and user ID that you used when you started it. But you can no longer use online software for any further changes.
Start a 2025 return online and enter some personal information so that the menu on the left opens up and lets you access your past year returns.
Online tax preparation and e-filing for 2024 returns is now permanently closed.
Now it is too late to use online software or to e-file. If you have any changes/corrections at all to make to your 2024 return, you now have to complete it using desktop software, which you must download to a full PC or Mac (not to a mobile device). Then you need to print, sign and mail it.

If you already paid for your online software you can ask customer support for a download of the desktop software.

If you are getting a refund, there is no penalty for filing late. If you owe tax due, then file and pay the amount due as shown on the Form 1040, but expect a bill later from the IRS for the penalty and interest you will owe. Only the IRS will calculate this—TurboTax will not calculate it.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

If you want to print a copy of your tax return for tax year 2025 and are using one of the TurboTax online editions, you must first pay for the edition you are using or if the Free online edition, you must register the edition.
To pay for the TurboTax online tax return, without the need to e-file the return, click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen. Click on Print Center. Then click on Print, save or preview this year's return. On the next page, to pay by credit card, click Pay Now. Complete the credit card section and click on Confirm payment.
However, you can view your Form 1040 plus Schedules 1, 2 and 3 at any time using the online editions. Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen. Click on Tools. Click on View Tax Summary. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left side of the screen.

what's missing is a clear explanation if you refinanced the property for more than the existing debt at that time. Qualified mortgage debt is only the amount that's the same as the refinanced amount unless you used the excess to buy, build or substantially improve the property. Multiple refis can present a problem in determining the eligible amount,

Did you get a paper IRS notice in the regular postal mail, or did you get an email or text? If it's an email or text, it's a scam. Ignore it, and you can ignore the rest of this reply. The IRS does not send notices by email or text.
If it's a paper notice, what is the notice number or letter number at the top right, starting with CP or LTR? Read the entire notice carefully. Does it say how much your deduction was, and how much they think it should be? Is the amount that they say you claimed the same as the amount on line 8a of the Schedule A in the 2024 tax return that you filed?
There are basically two possibilities. Either the amount that you entered in your tax return is more than the amount in box 1 of the Form 1098 that you received from the lender, or your deduction exceeded a limit. The itemized deduction for home mortgage interest is limited based on the outstanding balance of the loan, not on the amount of the deduction. Check that the amount that you entered in boxes 1 and 2 of the 1098 in TurboTax is the same as the amounts in boxes 1 and 2 of the actual 1098 from the lender.

No. The worst-case scenario is none of the payment was restorative and it is all taxable. Reporting the entire deposit as a Roth distribution, which would be non-taxable in your situation, is, in fact, the "Best Case Scenario". Hopefully you received some documentation outlining the nature of the payment.
As Dmertz alludes to, only the "Restorative" part of the payment could be reported as a Roth distribution and be non-taxable in your situation.
According to IRS Revenue Ruling 2002-45, to be restorative, the payment cannot exceed the amount of the loss plus any appropriate earnings adjustments. Anything over that amount, punitive payments, for example, could not be restorative.
Any non-restorative amounts would generally be taxable income. If you get some kind of form 1099 you will enter that form just as you received it and then as Opus17 notes "back out" of taxable income the restorative (non-taxable) part as a negative "Other Reportable Income" entry (Steps below).
Conversely, if you do not get a form 1099 but your paperwork shows some or all of the payment is non-restorative, you would add that taxable income as "Other Reportable Income" on your return (Steps below).
Finally, if the payment is all restorative and you did not get any forms 1099 for the amount, then don't enter it on your return at all and then as Opus17 states, keep the paperwork to support your action should it ever come up.
Select "Wages and Income" from the menu
Start "Miscellaneous Income"
Start "Other Reportable Income"
Yes
Add
Description - Identify what you are doing.
If "Backing out" a form 1099 amount, then for example "Restorative Roth settlement (Form 1099-XXX) and then enter a negative amount in the amount box.
If no form 1099 received, then "Roth Settlement" and enter the positive (taxable) income portion in the amount box.

Our records show you claimed too large of a Home Mortgage Interest Deduction on Schedule A of your 2024 Form 1040 tax return.
Review and fix any incorrect home mortgage interest claims. This may help you avoid additional interest or penalties.
How do i review my return and determine if it's right or wrong? and what the rules for that deduction?
