Good to hear. I just got off the call and I was able to e-file, finally! The agent was able to see my forms and we previewed that schedule 1 was generated and was correct with the top box. He was very good and stayed with me all the way to the finish. It seems like there was a glitch wanting to review but all the info was correct. Glad it’s over and fingers crossed I get accepted, and hopefully you too!

Since your son is under 23 and a full-time student, he has to indicate that he can be claimed as a dependent even if he isn't. Gambling winnings are considered unearned and subject to "kiddie tax", which means the tax rate is determined by the tax rate of the parents. However, this shouldn't cause the federal tax due to be more than double the winnings if the W-2G is the only income that your son received. If there are other items of income combined with this, you could see a pretty big jump in tax when this item is entered. If it's the only item of income I would clear the return and start over, after taking a moment to file an extension to get a little extra time to avoid "failure-to-file" penalties.

Hello, We are married filing jointly and each of us contributed to a Roth IRA for Tax Year 2024 in excess. We are permitted to contribute to a Roth, but are limited to below the maximum based on our income. We have requested extensions for Tax Year 2024, and so are doing a timely withdrawal to avoid the penalties. We understand any growth on the contributions are subject to income tax for 2024. We initiated returns of excess contributions (plus the earnings from the contributions). When we input those values into Turbo tax now, it says we still have excess contributions. I imagine if we go to withdraw this new excess from our IRAs, then we will have growth on top of that, which will in turn add to our taxable income. What is the solution for this?

Yes, that is correct. If it was a passive loss, then it would not offset anything (other than other passive income). Since it's not passive it offsets ordinary income.

Oh yes. I did finally see that. Sorry. Because you have a repayment in your federal return, it is triggering a need for both columns but the error for the MFS column is not clearing with or without a value. Not sure that you can even transmit your return with that error. Even if the value you enter is what you need to have, will the error stop you from transmitting? Sometimes people are able to just blow passed errors and transmit anyway.
