I have been purchasing the desktop version for several years. I did all of the recommended actions and the .tax2024 files are not anywhere. Previous years do show up. I enabled showing hidden files. Still no luck. I know I did not delete these files.  I only use this laptop for this because it hasn’t been available for Mac.  All I can assume is that the software isn’t auto saving the final .tax file.  Luckily I saved .pdf versions but that won’t help with auto importing that data. Seriously considering requesting a refund and trying another software since I will have to input everything from scratch again anyway.
Thank you.

Yes a customer service rep helped me get the FREE VERSION go to forms and delete 1040 off your profile. Not sure how exactly he did it but he signed in remotely to my tax return while I was on my account on my phone and went to forms and had me delete it and then it gave me the free option back. 🙂

The program often creates a "supporting statement" or a hidden link in the background when you answer certain questions during the interview process.  You will need to delete these form(s) to clear the problem. Delete Forms & Supporting Documents (Online): Open or continue your return. Click Tax Tools, then Tools (bottom left), and Click on Delete a form. Scroll down to State forms, and Look for a form titled something like "Other Additions & Subtractions", "IT-225", or "PTET Worksheet". Click Delete next to that specific form and confirm. Re-Run the "Review" (Smart Check) again (this should clear the requirement for that line). or... Delete Forms & Supporting Documents (Desktop): Open or continue your return. Click on Forms Mode (top right). Find the state form causing the issue (left column) (e.g., NY IT-225 or VA Sch CR)  Click on the form to open it, and Look for the specific line (often Code 20 or Code EA-219) where the "0" is stuck. Right-click the box and Click on Clear Data (not just Delete). If that doesn't work, Click on the form itself, then Click the Delete Form button at the bottom of the screen.
i want the same expert that i had last year. I need to call to make sure that happens.
It was my understanding that we could withdraw our contributions any time without penalty for a Roth IRA account, and that we would only get penalized or pay a tax if we withdrew earnings.

Did you go through the screens to prepare your state return?  If you didn't, you should be able to go back to the State section and go through the steps to prepare your state return as not all the information on a state return flows from the Federal return.   If this doesn't solve the issue you are seeing, please reply back with as much detailed information as possible (but no personal information) - this will help us better help you.
How do I fix my state return. I owe over a thousand dollars. Is this correct?

Here are a few reasons why your statement is appearing as a "Blank Form" and how to force it to populate correctly:   1. The "Character Limit" requirement In the 2024 version, if your explanation exceeds a certain character limit or contains special characters (like &, #, or bullet points), the software sometimes fails to "print-stream" the text to the formal Additional Information page.   Try shortening the statement to a very simple, one-sentence explanation: "Amending to file Form 8606 to report non-deductible IRA contributions and subsequent Roth conversions for Taxpayer and Spouse." See if that triggers a successful print preview.   2. Manual Entry in "Forms Mode" (Desktop Only) If you are using the CD/Download version, the Step-by-Step wizard might be disconnected from the actual form.   Switch to Forms Mode (top right). Look for Form 1040-X in the list on the left. Scroll down to Part II (Explanation of Changes). If it is blank here, type your explanation directly into the blue boxes on the form. This usually overrides the "Blank Form" issue. 3. The "Statement" vs. "Explanation" Conflict Sometimes the software generates a separate "General Statement" rather than attaching it to the 1040-X, Page 2. Check the very last pages of your PDF printout. Look for a page titled "Statement [X]". If your text is there, the IRS will accept it even if the 1040-X "Explanation" box says "See Attached Statement." If it truly is a blank page, use the method below.   If the software refuses to cooperate, don't let it delay your filing. Since you are amending a prior year (2024), you can Print to PDF.   If the explanation page is blank, use a basic PDF Editor (or even a Word document) to type your explanation.  Title it: "Form 1040-X, Part II - Explanation of Changes". Include your Names and SSNs at the top. Physically attach this to your 1040-X when mailing. For 8606 amendments, the IRS is primarily looking for the basis on Line 14 of the 8606. As long as that form is present and correct, a simple attached sheet for the explanation is perfectly legal and common.

@CatinaT1 I am not using the desktop version, I am using the online software and the app. I have already updated it to the latest update and cleared my cache and cookies and I still don't see the update for the QTP to ROTH, it still says "Our program has not updated to support this yet. Please check back later for updates."
Why haven't I received my NYS tax refund? It's very late compare to past years.
