What I would do on the old computer, is copy the whole Turbo Tax folder that is under your Documents. That should be where the .tax files and pdf files are stored. Also if you haven't done it, I would open each year in the program and save it as a pdf file, go to FILE - SAVE TO PDF so you don't need the program installed to view your return. Copy that folder to a flash drive or best yet is to burn it to a CD or DVD and then you will have a backup of them. Then on the new computer copy the folder (or files) from the flash drive to your Documents folder. You only need the tax return data file ending in .tax2023 to transfer into 2024 or .tax2024 to transfer into next year. You can't transfer the programs. They have to be installed from the CD or Download. You don't need to install older programs unless you need to amend or you didn't save the pdf file. And they only support the last 3 years. If you install an older year you won't be able to update it or download any state programs, so you won't be able to open your return. See this article on how to move your tax return to another computer……. https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/tax-data-file/help/how-do-i-move-my-tax-data-file-to-another-computer/00/26128

I'm taking over from a CPA and using turbotax Business to fill 2024 1041 return When I depreciate a water heater for a residential rental property, I'm surprised that TurboTax uses 200DB/HY even though I specified that the "Date in Service" is 11/15/19. Here are the parameters: Description: Water Heater Date in service: 11/15/2019 This asset was used 100% for business Description of asset: Tools, Machinery, Equipment, Furniture -> Rental property furnishing Amount paid: $1099. No special depreciation deduction in prior years. When I take a look at Form 4562, TurboTax uses 200DB/HY when it should be 200DB/MQ since the asset was put in service the last 3 months of the year. What am I doing wrong?

What kind of loss are you looking for? Capital loss carryover? Net operating loss carryforward? Something else?
If you properly carried over capital losses from year to year, the capital loss carryover for the current year (from 2023 to 2024) includes the cumulative losses for all previous years. The capital loss carryover is on Schedule D line 6 (short-term) and line 14 (long-term). The amounts on Schedule D lines 6 and 14 come directly from the Capital Loss Carryover Worksheet.

I Never got a reply back after I sent you a copy of my return? I still think the calculation is wrong and if I don't get an answer I may have to seek an alternative to TurboTax in the future which is shame since I have been using TT for many many years.

You have to use the account number that your spouse used so you can review the tax return. Get the information from him.

You have to log into the same Turbo Tax account. You need to get the username and password from your spouse.

@littletaff20 I think we're missing the problem. It shouldn't be rejecting for the EIC. What is the exact reject error message or code? A common reject is for the wrong AGI. Try entering 0 for the AGI. The IRS might have processed your return later so the AGI didn't get entered in time. Especially if you mailed it. That works for most people. See, https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/rejections/help/what-if-i-entered-the-correct-agi-and-i-m-still-getting-an-e-file-reject/00/27031 How to correct the AGI in the Online version https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/agi/help/where-do-i-correct-my-agi-in-turbotax-online/00/26311 If you can’t get it to efile you will have to print and mail it. https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/printing/help/how-do-i-print-and-mail-my-return-in-turbotax-online/00/26258 Be sure to attach copies of your W2s and any 1099s that have withholding on them. You have to mail federal and state in separate envelopes because they go to different places. Get a tracking number from the post office when you mail them for proof of filing.

I am still having problems with this issue when I attempt to complete my personal 1040 form using TurboTax online. My entries to Form 7023 Part II made in Turbotax online do not save. Therefore I am getting an error. "Sch K-1 Wks- S Corporations Form 7023: Line 35, column D should be blank when Part II, Line 29 Total column is zero." What's happening here is that I was able to enter figures into 7023 Part III which equal my allowable loss. But it does not comport with the Part II fields which are blank because when I enter values it does not save them. It makes sense that the Part II values should be entered by Turbo Tax will not save them after I spend a lot of time entering them.

My client sold her husband's home as admin of the estate. At the time of death, it was their personal residence. I am assuming the Estate inherited the property and sold the home a year later while still in probate. The sale generated a loss and I am wanting to confirm that the beneficiaries can claim the losses on the K-1 they recieve, correct? I have heard that because they lived in it after it went into probate, there will not be any losses to claim. What is the correct scenario? Thanks for any advice. Pattie

If you have ever had health insurance through the marketplace log in to healthcare.gov and double check that they didn't issue you a tax form for 2024.
If there is no tax form there then you have two options. You can print and mail the return or you can fill out the 1095a form in TurboTax and put $0.01 in every box. That will leave it as though it were all zeroes and submit the return for you.
Either way you can expect that there will be a significant delay in processing your return.
