It seems that the DOR is slow to update their transcript records. Since we are so close to the tax return due date, I can think of only two options: 1. Get on the phone first thing in the morning with the DOR, and wait until they give you an answer, or 2. Assume the worst case (that they are carrying forward your refund less any recalculation and interest), and do your 2025 with this amount was carried forward to 2025. Otherwise if you doubt that any amount was, then manually enter at Estimates and Other Taxes Paid->Other Income Taxes->2024 Refund applied to 2025 and send an email (or call) to the DOR asking where your refund went, if not returned to you and not carried forward to 2025. Sorry that we don't have a magic bullet for you, but only the DOR knows what they did.

The IRS closed that loophole years ago and you must account for all the depreciation taken. As you go through the sale of main home screen, it will ask if it was ever used as a rental/ business purposes, answer yes.
See Publication 523, Selling Your Home - eligibility requirements show you as ineligible if You or your spouse (or former spouse) used the entire property as a vacation home or rental after 2008. See Business or Rental Use of Home.

USER ERROR WITH SOCIAL SECURITY ENTRY
We have seen a lot of people who made a user error with the entry of their SSA1099. The screen right after you enter the SSA1099 asks you if you lived in certain foreign countries in 2025. If you skipped past that screen or answered incorrectly, your Social Security was not taxed correctly. Look at your Form 1040 and see if line 6b was left blank due to that mistake. The IRS is catching those mistakes and correcting them by reducing your refund or increasing your tax due. It is really so important to read every screen slowly and carefully from top to bottom as you prepare your tax return to avoid errors.

But that is not the truth, the intent IS to earn money, just like any other passive investments. TurboTax should fix it so that I don't have to lie to work around their bug, no?

How do you report a merger with a CVR in TurboTax if the broker’s 1099-B only shows the cash proceeds and not the CVR value?
Example:
LAVA Therapeutics
6,000 shares
1099-B proceeds: $6,240
cost basis: $9,506.40
merger consideration was $1.04 cash + 1 CVR per share
TurboTax only lets me adjust basis, not proceeds. Should I use a corrected basis to get the right result, or is there a way to show this as a Form 8949 adjustment so the proceeds still match the 1099-B?

Turbo Tax also taxed my Civil Service Annuity Income in Nebraska because it did not flag that a CSA 1099-R was entered. Consequently, I did not know about the line-item deduction for CSA Income for 2 years. I learned of it for 2025 tax year from a friend and looked carefully and finally found the line item for the deduction on State Tax Return. I had to file an amended return for 2024, and only then could I file a correct return for 2025. All in all, Turbo Tax should automatically flag any CSA 1099-R in Nebraska (and other states that do not tax retirement income) and fill in that deduction immediately. Once the amount is entered in the deduction, the software DOES properly correct the taxes due but as of now, there is NO automatic notice to do so.

Yes, the fair market value would be the value of the shares given to you which would be added to your income on your W-2 form. Since you will pay tax on that, it becomes your cost basis of the shares sold, so you don't get taxed again upon their sale.

You inherited in 2024 and sold in 2025. I am going to assume it was rented when you inherited it and you created a new Sch E for you using the basis at the time of inheritance. Because you held the property such a short time, a capital loss makes sense. The depreciation is part of the basis in the capital gain equation.
For example:
You inherited house worth $250,000 of which $50k was land value.
Let's say you depreciated the property for about a year about $7200.
When you sell the house, you don't list your basis as $250,000.
Instead your basis is $250k -$7200 =$242,800.
If you sold for $235,000 - you lost money and the depreciation is already accounted for.
If you sold for a gain, say $252,000, then the depreciation claimed would be part of your gain/recaptured.
You can contact support again to file a complaint and ask for a refund. To be really heard:
Once you file your return, as long as the settings to receive communication from Intuit don’t block it, you will see a pop-up message or receive an email with a survey asking you about your experience. We encourage you to leave your notes and comments there. “Voice of the Customer” notes and comments are read and acted upon.
If you are using TurboTax Desktop, you can also leave feedback at the Final Steps tab.

Pershing/ BNY reports ordinary investment income (coupon payments on their investment notes) on 1099-MISC box 3. After I answer all of TurboTax questions truthfully, it concludes that it is some sort of self-employment income and creates schedule C. Why can't TurboTax handle this correctly? It seems a TurboTax bug to me. Reading through IRS publication about 1099-MISC (https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1099mec.pdf), my interpretation is that the brokerage should be ok to report ordinary investment income (that's not dividends, royalties, stock transactions, interest, etc) on box 3. TurboTax should handle this correctly.

@marygraham500 IF you don't have the list, you scroll to the end of the list of states and select "Multiple States" ______________________________ Your financial advisor may not have the list, but any funds you own will publish a list elsewhere, usually on their website. You are not required to do a breakdown, and "Multiple States" suffices....especially if the $$ in box 12 isn't huge. ________________________ In the future, IF...if...IF...you decide to try, you only break out the $$ from your own state, and any US Territories (like Puerto Rico) and the rest of the $$ are lumped together as one "Multiple States" value. Here's an example for a supposed NC resident :

Desktop software. I did not choose Audit Defense. It was automatically added as a fee The tax return is my mother’s. She passed away in 2025. Why would I choose Audit Defense for a simple return? I spoke to several people at TurboTax and requested refund, to either the bank account noted on the return; or issue a check made out to my mother’s trust. They would not. I asked if they would add the $45 back to the refund amount. They refused. The only choice was to issue a check. You cannot deposit a check to someone who is deceased.
