Hi team,
I was hoping to file my tax return for 2023 as had missed the deadline and according to the Turbotax calculator, I have seen that it would be where I currently don't owe any taxes but instead will be a refund. So, my questions regarding these are:
- Would I be able to access my files from the year before and still use Turbotax to file as I have uploaded most documents? Not currently seeing the option. And if there is, would Metlife discount also apply to that?
- Are there any considerations for filing that return that I should be aware of?
Thank you!

In order to determine if the MetLife discount will apply, you will have to log into your MetLife Legal Plans benefits as follows: visit https://login.legalplans.com/register to log in or create an account. Then under ‘Debt Matters,’ select ‘Tax Preparation & Filing’ to access your benefits.
You should be able to access your files for 2022 to prepare your 2023 tax return, if that is what you are asking.
If you used TurboTax Desktop, your tax return information would be saved on your hard drive. You would have to use TurboTax Desktop 2023 to file a new 2023 tax return as TurboTax Online is not available for prior-year tax returns. If you used TurboTax Online for 2022, you can transfer your tax data from the TurboTax Online account you used to prepare your 2022 tax return.
If you did not use TurboTax for 2022 and you are using TurboTax Desktop 2023 to prepare your 2023 tax return, it may pull a PDF file, but the data it pulls will be somewhat limited.
You can transfer basic information if your 2022 tax return is a PDF of a 1040 return generated through H&R Block or Tax Act, A tax data file will provide a more complete import.
In some cases, TurboTax won't be able to read the PDF, for example, if it's password-protected or is a scanned copy of a PDF instead of an actual PDF file.
Here's how to transfer your PDF into TurboTax Desktop:
Click here for Transfer last year's return to TurboTax Desktop for Windows
Click here for Can I transfer last year's PDF into TurboTax Desktop 2024?
Click here for What's the difference between the tax data file and the PDF?
