American opportunity credit

I enrolled in college in 2016 and started in January 2017 I am enrolled half time am I able to claim the American opportunity credit for my 2016 taxes?

Yes, assuming you meet all of the criteria, qualified expenses paid in 2016 for 2017 can be claimed on the 2016 return.
