Why does MN state ask for total payments made in student loans...not even provided on the tax form given by provider?
For the federal student loan deduction, you can only deduct the INTEREST paid. For the Minnesota tax credit, it applies to the total PAYMENTS that you made. The 1098-E provided does only show the interest.
