2016 my tax return was taken by department of education over 7,000 I had no ideal this was going to happen. Nor did i ever attend school. How can i prevent this?

I filed with turbo tax and they did not indicate i owed any money to Department of education. Why?

TurboTax has no way to know what types of debts you owe, Education Loans included.

As Don's link indicates, the IRS should have sent you a notice about it that includes the contact information for the agency that took your money (Department of Education).  If you think it is an error, you need to correct it with the Department of Education.

I got a hold of department of education, to find out that there is no easy way to despite any thing with them. My identity was stolen and i filled a police report and filled a report to my atterny state General, also  with the identity theft prevention. None the less my federal money was still taken. With no help from department of education.

It may not be easy to dispute it, but I don't see any other way than to do whatever needs to be done to correct it with the Department of Education.

I'm not sure if they can help, but the Taxpayer Advocate may have some suggestions:
