Student loan interest deduction - how to split between two states for partial residence?

Spent 1 month in GA and the remaining in CA. Am I supposed to allocate the federal amount between the two states? if so, how?

Yes, for state return purposes you would need to allocate the federal student loan interest adjustment between CA and GA.

If you paid approximately the same amount each month, then 1/12th is allocated to GA and 11/12ths is allocated to CA. If you didn't pay the same amount each month, then allocate whatever you paid while in GA to GA, and the balance to CA.
