Should I say I didn't get a 1098T if my parents already reported it.

I'm being asked if I received a 1098t from school. I did but my parents reported it. Should I just report that I didn't receive it?

You shouldn't report anything in the education expenses section if you are a dependent and your parents are reporting the 1098-T.

Your parents should report the 1098-T, all expenses, and apply for an education credit.

If you received more tax-free assistance than education expenses, you would report the excess as taxable income.

Also, since they already used this should I say that this is the amount I paid to the school or should I just put $0?

make sure you clicked "Someone else can claim me..." AND "And they will claim me". so you are not claiming yourself. say no about getting a 1098-T or it will continue to ask you education expense questions

Did they get a credit or do you need to report taxable scholarships?

Sorry I'm just confused. I did put that I am claimed by someone else but it's still asking about how much I paid. However they already uploaded the 1098t on their taxes. I don't know if i'm supposed to add what tuition was. And they didn't put all my expenses for school. They only put the books. I also bought a computer. I bought this stuff myself, are they supposed to claim that?

Got it! it finally said that I can't claim it.

Great, and yes, your parents could also report the computer and other supplies. If they already got the max credit, they wouldn't get more by adding them, but if they didn't get the max credit, they could amend their taxes and claim those expenses as well. The max for the American Opportunity Tax Credit is 4,000 more in expenses than assistance.
