Received a 1098-T for debt payment but wasn't a student in 2022. How do I fill out the student information worksheet?

My husband starting making payments in 2022 to a debt collection agency for his student tuition that the school handed off to debt collection in 2019. The university sent us a 1098-T for the payments received for tuition, however, he has not been an enrolled student since 2018. The program won't let me say "No" on the student information worksheet when it asks if he was a student in 2022. How do we correctly indicate that he was not a student but also enter the 1098-T information?

You cannot get an education credit for payments made on past due tuition.  Entering the 1098T will not help your tax situation.

The 1098-T is only an informational document. The numbers on it are not required to be entered onto your tax return. However receipt of a 1098-T frequently means you are either eligible for a tuition credit or possibly your student has taxable scholarship income.  Since you know neither is true, just don't enter it.  The school, apparently,  made a mistake in issuing it to you.
