Ous Son is in post schooling and we are not receiving any tax credits of any kind?

Our son is in his last year of law school. He is 24 years old. When I went to file our taxes, Turbo tax will not give us the Lifetime Learning Credit nor do we get any dependent credit? Nothing has changed since last year and we did receive these tax breaks. I cannot for the life of me figure out why Turbo Tax will not let us claim him this year? We actually pay his rent for his apartment at school and his tuition, books, etc... He does work and he filed his own taxes but checked that we could claim him as a dependent. What am I doing wrong?

How much income did he have?  If he made over $4,300 you can not claim him anymore and he should claim himself and will get the 1,400 Recovery Rebate Credit on his return.  When did he turn 24?  Has to be under 24 on Dec 31 to claim a student. (unless they made less than 4,300)

Yes, he did make over $4,300 - I thought that might be the reason... And he turned 24 on September 17, 2021. I was hoping we could still get the tax break since we are the ones paying for his education, etc... Thank you for getting back to me!

Well the good news is he can get the 1,400 Recovery Rebate Credit even if you already got it for him based on your 2020 return.  And you don't have to pay it back.   He needs to amend his return.
