It depends if his school considers him a full time student. According to the IRS, a full-time student is defined as a student who is enrolled for the number of hours or courses that the school considers to be full-time attendance. Keep in mind that each school defines "full time" in its own way (usually in terms of the number of courses or hours).
To qualify as a student, the person must be (during some part of each of any five calendar months of the year):

@dburke1 - what prompts the question? Your son will receive a Form 1098-T and it will be marked on their by the school whether he is 'at least a half time' student. how old is he?
@NCperson Not sure why you had to add on to an answered post, asking why the user asked the question. It was answered and information given.
@bluedeb Agreed, the OP's question was answered. But it was not clear WHY he was asking that question; so I am asking for the question behind the question as that may be more beneficial to the OP..
Not clear whether the root of the question was whether the OP is attempting to claim the son as a dependent ("full time student" / age ) or simply attempting to understand whether the expenses qualify for AOTC (only require 'at least half time')....or something else......

@NCperson Not sure you need to ask a poster why they are asking a question, after all that is what this forum is about. You post did not add anything worthwhile.
@bluedeb everyone is entitled to an opinion. Thank you for yours'.
@NCperson Your Welcome!! I have seen a couple of posts and including mine that you add information that is not necessary. You just did that to mine after myself & another Champ answered 2 hours ago, & then you came in a few minutes ago to add the same information as the answers that were given. You have your own opinion, why not add it to your posts.
