Mark the first option (my name is not there or not listed first) if you are listed second on the 1098. The next screen will ask for the other responsible party's information. TurboTax wants to know who else received the 1098. If it is your spouse, and you are filing jointly, you can choose none of the above on that first screen.
Does that still apply even if both our social security’s are on the 1098 as well? We both co own the home together.
If you are filing jointly and you and your spouse are the only names on the 1098, select None of the Above on the first screen, the question doesn't apply to spouses filing jointly.
We aren’t married yet, just engaged, so we are filing separately, but our home is ours together. So that’s where the grey area is for me trying to figure out the logistics for taxes.
Generally the one who pays the interest gets to deduct it. If paid from a joint account you could split it equally.
