Internship deductions

My daughter did an internship at a dance school in another state this past fall while still taking online classes to stay full time.

This internship was required for her graduation. She had to pay tuition to the dance school as well as room and board while she was there. This was an 8 week internship.

How much of the tuition and room and board is deductible?

Thanks

Room and board are not qualified education expenses.   You can enter the tuition.

Students enrolled in an eligible institution can claim the cost of dance tuition and fees through either the tuition and fees deduction or as an Education Credit.

Amounts paid for room and board are not eligible.

    Eligible educational institution.

An eligible educational institution is any college, university, vocational school, or other postsecondary educational institution eligible to participate in a student aid program administered by the U.S. Department of Education. It includes virtually all accredited public, nonprofit, and proprietary (privately owned profit-making) postsecondary institutions.
