I was a full-time college student in 2020 (January through may) but then got two part-time jobs after graduation. What do I put as my occupation? Thank you!

Student? Or my employment (kitchen work)?

If you're required to file a tax return, or even if you're not, enter your "occupation" as of 12/31/20. If you have more than one occupation, enter your main occupation. (The one you spend most of your time doing.)

  • The IRS requires we ask about your occupation.

An occupation is what you do for work, but if you’re retired, a student or a stay-at-home parent, that can be your occupation as well.

Tip: Even if you're not required to file a return this year, file one anyway if you want to recover 2020 federal tax withheld from your paychecks.

  • For additional requirements that you need to meet to file a tax return, see the entire TurboTax FAQ here
