You can use the education expenses section to report a Pell Grant.
First, enter any education expenses you have reported on a Form 1098-T.
During the interview, you can enter any scholarships or grants you have received on your Form 1098-T. If you have a grant or scholarship that was NOT reported on the Form 1098-T, there will be a space in the interview to add additional scholarships or grants.
If the amount of your scholarships and Pell grants exceed your qualified education expenses (tuition plus required books and fees), then any overage is considered income to you (i.e any amounts you used for personal expenses such as room and board or travel). You will see an "SCH $$$" next to Line 7 on your tax return if you do.
