I live in NJ and I am still a dependent (age 22). I was a full time undergrad until May 2024, now a full time Grad student since Aug 2024.  I made some money as a tutor and Grad assistant in both schools located in PA. I'm filing for the first time to get any refund available. The Federal was easy then when I applied for the state it automatically took me to finish both NJ ( full resident) and PA ( non-resident).  Is that correct?   Appreciate a feedback. Thanks

If you live in NJ, your income from PA is not taxable by PA, it is taxed by NJ since PA and NJ have a reciprocal tax agreement.  This means, that your income is only taxed by the state you live in, not the state you work in.

You would only need to file a PA Non-Resident return if you are claiming a refund of taxes withheld. If you did have taxes withheld, when you file the PA non-resident return, you will enter $0 as your income and keep the amount of withholdings as they are reported.
