I am an international graduate student, have been working less than 20 hours a week on campus for 6 months and I don't know which residency form(IT-201 or IT-203) to pick

What is your visa status, and how long have you been in the USA.  i.e., when did you first originally come here?

Did you prepare a Federal return with TurboTax?  If you are classified as a non-resident alien, then TurboTax cannot prepare non-resident returns Form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ.

We can tell you more and some options when you clarify what your status is.

Thank you so much for your answer. My visa status is F1 and I came to US in January 2018 so its been 13-14 months. I went back home in the summer for 3 months I don't know if it changes anything or not.

I'm going to ask someone familiar with international filing to tell you what all you will need to do at this point.

If you can't use TurboTax, we can tell you about an affiliate partner <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://www.sprintax.com/">https://www.sprintax.com/</a>  (note sprintax has just one "t") that can prepare the Federal form 1040NR/NR-EZ for non-resident aliens.

Hopefully you have not already filed the Federal return.  If you haven't, then don't.  I'm asking someone to assist you.

F-1 is a non-resident alien for the first 5 years.  You can’t use TurboTax.  You would file a NY non-resident return as well.
