Thank you Carl. That is the exact situation with my daughter. Since the 1099-Q has my SS # on it, I will file that in the 1040 return.
Another question: what about the 1098-T form that my daughter received from the university? She has no earn income other than few scholarships and is a dependent on the parents? Do she need to file a tax return?
@TWJ4899 Your daughter would not need to report the scholarship income reported on her 1098-T form unless it was more than the tuition and books/fees expenses. In other words, if she had income because her scholarship money wasn't used for her education expenses. Also, the amount of income would have to be more than the minimum necessary to be required to file a tax return. She can use this IRS tool to see if she needs to file a tax return:
