Daughter's 1098T

My daughter has a 1098T.  She is 21, FT student and I can claim as a dependent.  Do we claim this since we pay, or does she claim on her tax forms?  She has no employee income this year.

Put it on your return and take the American Opportunity Credit if you qualify.

Jlar is correct.  If your daughter is a dependent on your income tax return, you would input the 1098T on your income tax return using these 1098T Instructions.

You claim the tuition credit, not because you paid the tuition, but because she is your dependent.  For example, had she paid the tuition herself or had it paid by student loans, you would still claim the tuition credit because she is your dependent.

In fact, it is not optional.  If she qualifies as your dependent, she is, generally, not allowed to claim the credit on her return

This assumes the tuition in box 1 of the 1098-T is a larger amount than the scholarships in box 5
