I received this email from Turbo Tax on March 16, 2021:
The IRS has begun distributing a third round of stimulus payments.
We understand that you may have questions about where a third stimulus payment will be sent since you used the TurboTax Stimulus Portal to update your information with the second round of stimulus payments.
Here is what you can expect:
If you filed your 2020 tax return and it has been processed by the IRS your stimulus will be sent to the account you provided in that return.
If you provided updated banking information via the TurboTax Stimulus Portal for the second stimulus, that information was given to the IRS so they could deposit a third stimulus payment in that account.
If a bank account the IRS has on file is closed and your bank rejects the payment, the IRS will either:
Deposit your stimulus check into the bank account you entered into the TurboTax portal, or
Send your stimulus by check to the address they have on file for you within 14 days.
We understand that these funds are important to you and we are doing everything we can to help you get them as quickly as possible.
We encourage you to regularly check the IRS Get My Payment tool, here, for updated information on how you can expect to receive your stimulus payment. The payment status on that tool will not change more than once per day.
Thank you again for being a TurboTax customer.
Respectfully,
Sarah Kim

However, when I check the GET MY PAYMENT tool on the IRS website, there is a bank account listed that was closed a over a year ago. According to the tool, my funds were to be deposited TODAY. I received my 2nd Stimulus into an updated bank account that I was able to update through Turbo Tax. The email states that my UPDATED account is the one that will be used for my 3rd stimulus payment. Yet, that is NOT the account listed on the GET MY PAYMENT tool on the IRS website. So..... am I to assume the email is a blatant lie? Please Advise.
My 2019 income was too high to qualify for this third (2021) stimulus check. My 2020 income is lower than the threshold, so I do indeed qualify. But I'm also reading that one should wait to file 2020 if they received unemployment, since the first $10,200 will not be taxable. Is it better to file today to get the third stimulus check (if it's not too late and the IRS has already submitted my 2019 numbers?) and then ammend my return, OR wait? Thanks!
Unfortunately, the IRS has not yet provided guidance to TurboTax regarding how to handle the new law which states that he first $10,200 of UI will not be taxable. We are aware that this is frustrating but please check back daily, as TurboTax will make updates as soon as they are available. If you file today there is no guarantee that it would trigger the third stimulus check.
So I guess no one saw my question.... it’s just being ignored huh.? Wow.
I didn't file a tax return this year
I received the same email. Then got a different answer on Twitter. The one on Twitter said the IRS will not be using the information that was entered in for the second stimulus. I don’t think they know what’s going on. When I gave them the information I assumed my information was updated. That’s definitely not the case. Yet they had confirmed that the IRS had all the correct information. Scared to file my taxes during all this.
It’s been over a week now and the IRS still shows mine was deposited into the wrong account. It doesn’t take a week for a bank to reject it. I’ve talked to my old bank they weren’t much help at all so now what am I supposed to do. I bet my taxes this yea won’t be done turbo tax I promise you that.
Regarding the email, TurboTax was telling you what they understood to be in place at that time, but they do not control the IRS. The IRS is doing their best on updating their records, but while they are not updated, they have not choice but to revert to what is on file.
Unfortunately, at this time, treat it as if the information submitted in the portal will not be used by the IRS for this third round of stimulus payments.
The IRS will use the latest information they have in your file which will be:
If the bank account is closed, a paper check will be mailed to the last known address. It takes time for it to be rejected, returned to the IRS, get the address on file, issue a replacement check and mail the check.
They are otherwise processing millions of returns, issuing and in some cases reprocessing millions of checks.

My stimulus was supposed to be be deposited into my old account on the 17 to the wrong account. The bank returned it and it now says that it will be deposited on the 25th the problem is that it’s again going to the wrong account
My stimulus was supposed to be be deposited into my old account on the 17 to the wrong account. The bank returned it and it now says that it will be deposited on the 25th the problem is that it’s again going to the wrong account again?
It says it’s be re-processed for direcr deposit back in the wrong account for the second time. Smh
This is all very frustrating.
At some point, this IRS FAQ should come into play. We do not know when.
This IRS FAQ My payment was mailed but my post office was unable to deliver it. states:
Once we receive your payment back, you may be able to provide your bank account information in Get My Payment to have your payment reissued as a direct deposit.
If this is the case, then Get My Payment will show “Need More Information,” usually two to three weeks after the payment is issued. At this point, you can enter a routing and account number for your bank account, prepaid debit card or alternative financial product that has a routing and account number associated with it.
If you do not provide account information, your payment will be reissued when we receive an updated address.
Follow the TurboTax COVID Tax Center and the IRS Economic Impact Payment Information Center as further updates are issued by the IRS.
Is doesn’t show need more information. Could they be putting it into the account I gave during the second stimulus through the portal?
Hopefully not.
The IRS is supposed to use the latest information they have on file from you. If you used direct deposit for refunds when filing your income tax returns, the IRS will use the information from the latest filed tax return.
Please see the links below for additional guidance from the IRS.
