I am the trustee for a small trust that I and my siblings inherited. I distributed the trust corpus per the trust document just after our father's death. One of my half-sisters is a nonresident alien, but turbotax still wants a SSN for her. She gave me her country's social insurance number but it is longer than a US SSN. What do I tell turbotax to put on her K-1? The box for nonresident alien is checked, but it is still wanting a SSN.

Two possible solutions --(a) use a dummy SSN , print the K-1s and send the IRS / State copies by mail, having snopaked out the dummy SSN and writing NRA in its place; (b) use Trustee's SSN just to pass the system checks. I am assuming that there are no tax consequences for the beneficiaries either in the USA or in the other country and this whole thing is just for records and close the books
