It depends. When you choose to add an asset, by selecting to 'Add an expense or asset' you will enter the cost of the unit then the land portion of that cost. Once you have entered the property into the asset section, the depreciation will be calculated automatically. Be sure to finish that section.
Enter your Vacation Property/Rental Property:
- In TurboTax, search for rentals and select the Jump to link at the top of the search results.
- Follow the on-screen instructions as you proceed through the rental and royalties section.
- On the Rental Summary screen, which is where you enter your rental income and expenses, assets and depreciation, etc
- When you enter your rental house as an asset be sure to select Residential Rental Property, then follow the screen prompts to enter all the details
