Your question is very common - sorry for the confusion.

Information from Form 1099-MISC can be entered in 2 different locations, depending on your situation:

Self-Employment - when the income relates to your normal job or something you do regularly. This income will end up on a Sch C, subject self-employment tax and expenses can be entered to reduce the taxable amount.

Other Common Income - something you did only once - and not related to your normal job and don't plan on doing this type of work in the future.

If the second example sounds like you - enter this information in Turbo Tax as follows: Go to Federal Taxes - then click on Wages & Income, next look for the section: Other Common Income, then click on Start to the right of "Form 1099-MISC."

I hope this helped you. Thank you for using Turbo Tax.

I have the same question. When I double click the box, nothing happens. But I can not proceed, just keeps saying this section needs review.

Form 1099-Misc was used in the past report self-employment income; now Form 1099-NEC is used.  If you were paid for your work on a 1099-MISC, you should request the company that paid you to correct this and send you a Form 1099-NEC form instead.

If you didn't have self employment income reported on Form 1099-MISC, then you should review your entries. ‌If after reviewing your entries, you keep getting that error, you can delete the form and re-enter it.‌ To go back to that section:

  1. Open your return
  2. Go to 1099-MISC
  3. Select Edit or Delete next to the 1099-MISC you want to change or delete
  4. If you’re deleting a 1099-MISC, answer Yes when you’re asked to confirm the deletion.

If you continue having issues, you can try these steps if you are using the online version:

What's the difference between a 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC for self-employed income?
