Can not remove selection on Schedule E Worksheet (NAME): Yes, 1099s were filed should be blank if 1099s were not required?

Go back to adjust this at the original entry. To get back there in TurboTax, follow these steps:

  • First, be sure you are in your return by clicking Federal on the left menu.
  • Type schedule e in the search box.
  • Click the Jump to link.
  • By the rental property, select Edit.
  • Just below Here's your rental property info, click Edit by Rental property info. This is before INCOME is listed.
  • Scroll down to Owner Info and select Edit by Required to send a 1099.
  • Select Looks good.

I tired - no joy.  So what I think has happened is I at first selected  "yes" to the answer thinking the management company might need a 1099 from me and the second question "did you or will you send 1099" got checked.  It is the second question's answer that won't go away.

Did you make any payments that would require you to file Form(s) 1099?
Yes
No (this is checked)
If yes, did you or will you file all required Form(s) 1099?
Yes
No (This "no" is checked and I can't deselect this answer) and it keeps preventing me from filing on line.
I appreciate any help you can offer.

To make the changes on the Schedule E Worksheet, please follow these steps:

TurboTax CD/Download

If you are using TurboTax CD/Download, you can make the change in Forms Mode:

  1. Go into Forms Mode by clicking on the Forms icon in the top right of the blue bar
  2. In the Forms in My Return list on the left, click the Sch E Wks (address) you want to change.
  3. In the Complete for all Properties section, you can mark the No boxes.  [See Screenshot below.]
  4. To return to the interview, click on the Step-By-Step icon in the top right of the blue bar.

TurboTax Online

IKathrynG3's instructions did not work, delete the Sch E Worksheet and reenter.  To do this, please follow these steps:

  1. While in your return, click on Tax Tools > Tools (in the black bar at the side of your screen).
  2. In the Tools Center, under Other helpful links click on Delete a form.
  3. Click Delete next to the form you want to delete and follow the onscreen instructions.
  4. Once you have finished deleting the desired form(s) click the Continue with My Return box (in the lower right of your screen).

Hi Irene:

Could please let me know which forms should be deleted?

Two options:

1. When the question asks, Did You make payments requiring a 1099? You are unable to change your selection.

The following box, Did you file all required form? Select yes. You did in fact file all required forms - none required, none filed.

Not ideal, admittedly. I would prefer to go this route if sch E is very involved. If the IRS says, where are the forms? Just say it was a typo, no forms needed.

2. Delete the sch E and re-enter everything.
