I am a freelancer who is usually paid 80% of the time as an employee and 20% of the time as an independent contractor, so I usually have a small schedule C each year. In 2020 I had no I.C. work, I was only paid as an employee for the entire year. Can I still file a Schedule C with no income so that I can deduct my expenses, or am I asking for trouble?

You can do that but not regularly.
In 2021 I have formed a corp, so 2020 would be my last schedule C.
